Topic: Favorite Non-FictionPress Poets/Poems
Is anyone else here into contemporary poetry? Slam, spoken word or anything?

As far as my favorites are concerned:

Anne Sexton and E.E. Cummings are classic and amazing. As for contemporary poets: Danny Sherrard, Brian S. Ellis and Shannon Leigh all come to mind immediately as incredible. If you can see them read live -do it. Otherwise, they all have myspace. Go listenlistenlisten. (If you can't find anything and want to, tell me and I'll find specific addresses for you.) I wish Danny had more online, because you can't even believe how amazing this kid is.

How about you guys?

Yes, E.E. Cummings is one of my favorite poets, I have to agree. ;} <333

I haven`t heard of the contemporary poets, but then again I don`t get out much. Ah, though people don`t generally like her, I`m a big fan of Yoko Ono. Her style is so beautifully read. :`D

Thanks for the recommendations!

One of my favorite modern poets is Allen Ginsberg; his "Howl" is on my list of top five poems. Jack Kerouac is also good, though he can get a bit too out there for my tastes. I've read some Edna St. Vincent Millay, and I'm reading William Butler Yeats; they're more traditional, especially in their early works, but they're still wonderful.
