Tam CutterTopic: GO FREESTYLE Thats the only type of poetry that I write. It has no limitations at all. You get to write whatever you want. |
Bitter IronyYou get to write whatever you want. And therein lies the danger. |
Midnight In EdenAbsolutely. Then again people can absolutely butcher poetry when in verse form as well. |
Bitter IronyTrue--and guilty as charged. :-) Though not recently, I hope. But then again, when you're writing in verse, you at least have to try a little tiny bit. It's completely possible to write a free verse without the slightest bit of effort. (I say this because I've done THAT as well). |
Midnight In EdenThat is also true.Although I find I try a lot harder with free verse these days purely because there is so much shite free verse that you wanna stand out. |
Tam CutterOk, yeah that is true. A lot of people do write freeverse. Read some of my stuff, tell me what you think. It is just that I kind of find it hard to rhyme it all together. |

CareyAnnWhen i think of freestyle, my term to use is "thought blurb". No real structure to it, but there's a main idea or topic to it. i've written a couple. |

A Perfect SonnetFreeverse doesn't always mean you can write whatever you want. It's generally an abandonment of a strict type of form, but you can't abandon the poetry of it. And for the record: freeverse can be very structured, just in ways that don't follow traditional patterns. Too many people use freeverse as an excuse for being lazy and generic -it's really annoying and disrespectful to the inherent purpose of poetry.I also don't think it should be judged so harshly for peoples abuse and misuse of it. Discount the people, not the poetic concept. |
CareyAnnthat's more what i was trying to say. i just couldn't find the right words to explain it. i just posted one of mine the other day if anyone would like to go read it and let me know what you think |
