Topic: What's Your Niche?
What's your pleasure, folks? Share your favorite genres to write for and why they're your favorites. Do you like nonfiction, fiction, poetry?

Me? I'm still exploring my genres, trying to figure out what I do best and what feels at home for me. I almost always write fiction, but poetry is great for expressing emotions. I love writing fantasy!

How about you guys?

I use to hate, hate, HATE (like whoa hate) poetry, but now... I love it. I can't stop writing it (yay for freeverse). But as for me I love morbid/horror/gore, some romance (use to hate that too as some of the other people know) and well... um.. Fantasy of course, though I use it in my morbid/horror/gore stuff... and um... yea whatever has a good story I probably read. Heh!

I love to write a good fantasy. I've never really tried a true horror fiction, but I'd like to. I'm also trying my hand at some mystery and some spiritual works, but it's hard. Well, what is writing but a fun challenge? I also love to write a good supernatural (most of the vampiric nature) story. I've recently tried my hand at some romance that I need to get back and post on. I love it!

I also write poetry. I personally believe that poetry is the best way to express feelings that you are having trouble to. I haven't written much lately, but when I get in a mood, believe me, I will return to it.

Fantasy and thrillers hands down. The reason that I love fantasy so much is that no matter what you do, your story is fantasy so it can have whatever you want in it, like magic, dragons, sowrds that glow, and various cool stuff. But other than fantasy I like to write a lot of descriptive poetry and I am currently writing a ghost story which I need to post soon. Shoot.

I think I'm too young to have found my true niche, so I'm always coming up with plotlines and story ideas for genres I've never written for in the past. When I first started writing, all my stuff was supernatural and horror. I remember doing a short sci-fi at some point, too, but most of my stuff was just vampire stories. Then I went into classic sort of fantasy.

And now? I'm all over the place--fantasy, horror, supernatural, sciencefiction, romance. I never ever ever thought I'd write romance stories, but they just come out-splat!

To add to that, my mother wants me to write a mystery (She's a big fan of everything from Perry Mason to Columbo to Murder She Wrote.) How can I do that for her? Well, I also know that she enjoys Night Stalker, so, logic tells me that I could write a supernatural mystery or science fiction mystery, as long as I lost some of the high tech bits.

I still don't know what I'm good at. . . .Which sort of sucks. But I guess that's what it is like to be a young writer.

Yea, I find it hard, sometimes, to make my ideas for fiction work because I can't get the words to mold together like I want them to.... so it goes down as a poem until I figure out what I want to do with it *cough 'Shadowed Poems' cough*

My biggest problem with fiction is planning the story out. Often times, I find that I have a beginning, an end, but no middle! I try to tell myself, "Tricia, your characters have got to get from Point A to Point B...now how do they do that?" And then the little spring that holds my mind together pops and I'm back at square one.

As for poetry, for me, it's an express of feeling. I only write poetry when I'm feeling particularly strong about something. I haven't written any in a while...which makes me ask myself...have you been asleep? Nope, I answer myself (this is getting bad), it's college. It's dulled your senses. Maybe I'll be in a poetry mode here soon.

My probs the opposite of yours, Trishy, I get my characters right in the middle of a story. Point A and point be are what I have trouble with.

Ok, you guys know my problem with the POINT A.....Trish gave me a shock collar because of my constant story beginning revisions. It only hurts a little these days.....*pout*

I like to write character-centric pieces. In short fiction, I like atmospheric works.
