TRADITIONAL PANTHEON

Ami

Ami, the Earth goddess, is the patron goddess of farmers, gardeners, healers, hunters, and those who live in the wild. She is seen as a young woman with flowers and vines woven into her hair, and sweeping cotton and silk dress. She walks barefoot, and her eyes are golden and kind. However, she also brings earthquakes, droughts and plague. Her sign is the sand lily. Her demigod children’s right eye is always a straw gold.

Dia

Dia, the Fire goddess, is the patron goddess of gypsies, mages, hostlers and smiths. She has curly scarlet hair is streaked with gray. She is large, heavily muscled from centuries before the forge. Her greatest creation is the horse, which gypsies prize above all other animals and possessions. Her signs are the horse and the hammer. She exemplifies defiance and strength. Her demigod children’s right eye is either a fiery copper or a flaming gold.

Brastar

Brastar, the god of Hearth and War, is the patron god of armies, healers, farmers, mercenaries, children, parents, rulers, teachers, bakers, and cooks. He is depicted as a large, merry man, reclining before the hearth in times in peace; during war, he is decked out in full, brilliant armor, with his great sword in hand, roaring a war cry. His sign is a sword and stalk of wheat. He is said to be vengeance incarnate. His demigod children’s eyes can be a stern bronze, copper or gold.

Urtan

Urtan, the Stone god, is the patron god of priests, mages, healers, stonemasons, the sick, monks, rulers, and military leaders. He symbolizes constancy and patience. He has no sign and has many depictions. However, his demigod children’s right eye is always a wise cloudy bronze.

Kitkra

Kitkra, the Creation goddess, is one of the Triune deities, and often regarded as the most important. Like all of the Triune deities she is worshiped by all, but she is particularly important to crafters and women, especially priestesses. She symbolizes the eternal cycle of life and death. She has not merely one form. It is said that she is the most powerful of the Triune as opposed to Rathkargil, and is also called the Mother. The eagle is her symbol and her sign. Her demigod children’s right eye is a warm gold or a venerable silver.

Soneirath

Soneirath, the god of Ether, is often depicted as a young man with soft silver eyes and hair with pale skin and a thin, wistful face wearing a long silvery robe and holding a glowing wooden staff. He is the patron god of healers, priests, and mages. He is also one of the Triune, though the least worshiped of all the gods. His sign is a star. His demigod children’s right eye is either a gentle silver or a pale gold.

Rathkargil

Rathkargil, the Oblivion god, is the eventual patron god of those who have lost. He is not a god of death, rather symbolizing the turning of time as everything returns to Oblivion. He is the Void, and it is said he is most powerful among the Triune as opposed to Kitkra. It is in his honor that all the dead are shrouded in a dark grey veil. His demigod children’s right eye is always a sharp bronze.

Tarn

Tarn, the Fallen God, is said to have once been the god of Eternity, Ael, and thus the Sovereign Illusion. His consorts, instead of being mortal, are the three Spirits Iea of the wind, Yuo of the sun, and Ayu of the water. His children are allegedly the demon race.

NAIHWAN GODS

The Naihwan gods are more like divine characters in a heavenly epic rather than a group of deities that watch over mortals. They are worshiped because their suffering surpasses all mortal suffering.

Olcore was an older alchemic god and Elyar, the son of Simyng, was a young god who desired the company of the ttarvek—land-walker—goddess, Alyka. Elyar begged Olcore to help him win the heart of Alyka; he agreed, but told him that the only way he could succeed was by carving out Alyka's heart and hiding it in a pearl within the sea. Olcore also warned Elyar that should he fail, Elyar would owe him either his or his beloved’s soul. Elyar, rashly agreeing, went to Alyka. However, she could barely understand him and she gently rejected him. Not only that, but Elyar found he could not cut out her heart. Bitter and disappointed, he went back to the sea. Olcore demanded payment as soon as the young god returned and Elyar sullenly told Olcore to take Alyka’s soul. Olcore summoned and possessed the fearsome Qoleqam (the terrible beast with one hundred tentacles and twenty arms), as the Qoleqam was one of Olcore’s creations. Olcore told Elyar that had he truly loved Alyka he would have offered his own soul even though she had spurned him. Simyng arrived, warned by one of her subjects, and offered Olcore her own soul in place of her son’s. Olcore agreed, and Simyng became little more than a memory. Elyar, driven by grief, committed suicide. Olcore eventually faded to the depths, but as a tribute to Simyng created the first Thalasanthar in her image.

FLIIARI GODS

The Fliiari gods are the shapeshifters: able to assume any humanoid or animal form, with a third form that no mortal Fliiar can have.

Sklar

The Yale god is depicted as a tall, graceful humanoid, sometimes with two horns furling up from honey-brown curls. His nose is long and straight, and his golden eyes are straightforward, wise and piercing. He is muscular though rather lean, and his skin is tanned. He is often said to carry with him a chaste bow.

In Yale form, he is three times as large as a normal stag, yet very fluid and graceful. His soft fur is a light, golden fawn color, with white spots on his rump. His hooves are obsidian black, and his eyes are deep brown. His ears are quiet large and has white flecks. His horns can move in any direction.

Brauthl

The Dragon god is a large, intimidating humanoid. His eye color changes constantly, reflecting his whims and moods. He is tall, very muscular, and has coal black hair that is so dark it often appears to be blue in light. His skin is not as tanned as the Yale god's, but his shoulders and chest are much broader. His face is angular and he has a square, obstinate jaw, with stormy, unyielding brows.

In Dragon form, Brauthl is huge, at least four times as big as a decent trading wagon. He is lithe, muscular, and covered in diamond-hard scales. His scales depend on his mood--black when angry, green when annoyed, purple when content, red when sad--but usually it's a deep blue with golden flecks. His claws, horns and teeth are somewhat like silver but resembles ivory, too. His wings, when unfolded, are easily one hundred feet long. He can wield dragonflame.

Fyrani

The Phoenix goddess is a refined deity. Her curtain of long, straight, flaming red hair reaches a few inches past her shoulders. Her skin is dark, not from the sun, but simply from her reign over the Cymeni Sands of Northern Illusia, where all humans and hominids naturally have dark skin. She is quite slender but rather short. Her eyes are the color of golden flame. She is very graceful.

In Phoenix form, Fyrani is quite large, with a wingspan of 50 feet. Her whole body is afire, leaving streaks of flame in her wake when she flies. Her eyes are obsidian black and her talons are huge and sharp. She can wield phoenixfire. Her tail is a long, fiery plume and her beak is as black as her eyes.

Rezara

The Leviathan goddess is without a doubt the wildest of all the Fliiari deities. She is depicted as a tall, haughty woman with long, straggly, wet blue-black hair that hangs all the way to her hips. Her eyes are the colors of the sea or a deep black and she is seen as wrapped in sail-like rags, with colorful seastars sometimes stuck to the cloth. Her expression is rather feral and fierce. There is something regal about her wildness. She is lithe, fearfully strong, and has alabaster skin.

In Leviathan form she is vaster even than Brauthl. She is long enough to wrap herself around the biggest of ships without stretching. She is a mixture of blue, green, black, brown, and even purple. Her eyes are the colors of the sea or a deep black even in this form.

JEHELISM

Jehelism is practiced mainly by the Rin. It is the only monotheistic religion in Illusia. Priests are called "arhel"s.
