Topic: July

In case I forget... Here are the July sign-ups.

The way we do this this month is up in the air, actually. Would you guys like to do a certain genre, or would you like to have a prompt or something? Nothing too constrictive, though; the point is just to let your imagination fly a bit.

-----

EDIT BY LIME (for clarification and guidelines):

GUIDELINES

There is no need to wait to upload your chapters, just upload each chapter in your story as you finish it. When you first upload the story, make a post in this topic and include the following:

1) Title

2) Include a hyperlink to your story

3) Genre or Prompt (if applicable)

4) Current Status (i.e. how many chapters/word count)

As you upload more chapters, edit your post to update the status.

CHALLENGE OPTIONS

1) Write a story about whatever you think you can make work. There are no limitations.

2) Follow a prompt suggested by this month's participants.

Current Prompts

By Violent Messiah:

The antagonist wins!: I dunno about anyone else, but I usually root for the bad guy because well, they usually seem cooler. Yet every story I read, and I'm ashamed to admit write, the good guy finds a way to win. So how about giving the bad guy, or whatever antagonist your story contains, their due and letting the good guy, usually the protagonist, go down for the count?

Ode to the cliche...: Ah, the cliche. Where would a lot, and I mean a lot, of writers be without it? Where would readers be without it? Probably in a nearly empty book store, but I digress. How about taking a time honored cliche and doing something most people don't expect writers to do with them; Tell the cliche story well, and preferably with a twist.

Is this still going on, and if so what kind of genre or prompt are you thinking about?

I'd like to join too.

No worries. This is definitely going on. =)

As for what kind of genre or prompt, please, throw suggestions at us. (I mean, please leave them at my feet. Just gently put down that piece of paper with scribbles on it here on the ground. I'm a cream colored limecat with a lime-peel helmet - just look on the floor, you can't miss me.) Actually, post them in this thread and we'll see how participants respond to them.

I would like for this one to be open to the participants - pick whatever they want to do or go by the genre/prompt if there is one. Like Flipper said, "let your imagination fly a bit." ^_^

I'm actually going to attempt to participate this month!

If I'm understanding Lime correctly, then I agree with her. The genre/prompt idea sounds interesting, but I think it should be optional, like something to work with if you're really stuck.

So by prompt, are we looking for a given theme or title, ex. "The Window," or something more like "write a story that includes a small child, a horse, and a chair?" (These are just examples, by the way, not actual suggestions.)

Heh...I'm glad those are examples, because the only way I could work under those prompts would be to have the small child beat the horse with the chair, or someone going out the window. Hey, just living up to my name. -=D

Actually, I started on something and when I out lined it, I figured it was 20,000 words tops. However, when I finished the first chapter, I found out it was over 6000 words. Needless to say, I'll be entering something else...

As for suggestions of prompt and/or theme? Two came to mind when I thought about it. How about, and I'm just tossing them out there so feel free to shoot 'em down...

Or, we could just write whatever the blazes we want...I'm flexible.

I'm participating!

Personally, I think it should be free writing. But that's just me.

VM, both your ideas are good but if I had to pick one, I'd pick the first. I like the heros most of the time, but you're right - too many stories end with the hero winning. Life isn't like that, for one thing, and it'd be fun for the antagonist to win. D:

Anyway, I already have an idea as to what I'll submit this month - I just have to start it. *annoyed growl*

I like to join - but I'd prefer a prompt or something to keep me through it (because I can't work without one.). I'll just nick one that's been mentioned already (because my mind is contemplating 'Ode to the cliche'.)

Hmm...

I don't think there's anything against the rules in using a prompt ... :)

Hey, Lime, Flipper - are we going to use the same format as last time? Like title of story, progress (chapters, words) from June?

Did that even make sense?

I'll edit Flipper's post to clear up any confusion on this month's entries. This is a free for all. Do what you want and if someone has made a suggestion on a prompt and you feel like you can make it fly, then by all means, go for it!

Yes, Ashe, we will follow the same format as last time. Please read the first post of this thread for guidelines.

If you can post your story by August 9th, we can still count it for the July challenge. If not, there's always September!

Alright, here we go. I just joined the forums today...if I can crank out a story by the 9th, can I still be eligible?

Welcome Jeff!

I have extended the deadline to August 9th. If you think you can do it, go for it! I will stop accepting submissions for July at midnight FP time on August 10, so you have all of August 9 to submit your story. Please familiarize yourself with the guidelines for story submissions in the 'Read This First!' thread. Also, please refer to the first post of this thread for submission format. Glad to have you here!
