For the people who are new to this forum, the next writing challenge will be held on the first day of November. During the last week of October, I will create the November challenge thread and open it up for registration.

October is reserved for the September participants to review the ones who submitted stories for September's writing challenge...hence, the Bi-Monthly part of the forum's name. =)

Hi Flipper and BFF Lime! =D *waves* I have a question that borders on a problem.

I just want you guys to know that I come to you first before even consulting with anyone else, even my own mods. So I hope you see how much your approval means (should I get it!). Your approval or disapproval will determine what I will do. If you say "no", I will just not do it, thus refrain :) So don't hesitate to say no if that is the answer you wish to give.

Now. I was, in one of my many quests of trying to make RG Forum the best it can be, looking through old sugs of new topics to add. One of the sugs was to have a sort of writing-stories thread to break writer's block. -- see post #840 --- But your forum is for that. BUT I got another idea from it. Granted, it is unrelated from writer's block. But there are however undeniable similarities. Which is why I come here (duuuh, Frac)

My idea:

I was thinking of suggesting (in sug, of course :p) a new thread called something like "Writing Challanges". If you are familiar with LJ, they have these 100 themes and also prompts have always interested me.

I read in your rules here that a story must be at least 5 000 words, so I think for the Writing Challenges, it would be somewhere between 100-1000 words (max 2000).

Either monthly, or bi-monthly, there would be a prompt/theme/quote. One only. Otherwise its too much. And everyone participating would have to write at least one story based on that prompt/quote/theme (or poem! Except I dont know what the word limit would be for that. Mini or other poem knowledgeable would have to decide that)

This is made for fun, which is also why it is so short submissions they have to give. The short submissions will also teach the people how to effectively express themselves in few words. Well, hopefully, it will.

Maybe there will be a max number of contributions, I dunno. Because I was also thinking of making a contest of it. The submissions gets into a poll when everyone is done submitting, and a winner is voted for. And winner will win a review on their story (or if the other participants already reviewed that story - a review on another piece of theirs).

This isn't really meant for those with writer's block as I said, it is meant for those that want writing challenge on the side from their regular story. Which is why I think it is important to have it a short piece, so it doesnt distract authors too much from their hard core writing and feel they can have time for this contest still.

Example of execution:

Person in charge: Okay guys! 1st period of Writing Challenge has started! You have from today til *insert appropriate time frame* to write at least one story/poem based on this prompt: "There is blood on the walls"

A: I have written "Annie come home" (linkage)

B: I have written blabla

etc etc

END SUBMISSIONS

POLL IS MADE

Person in charge: OMG A, you won. Everyone give her a review on her challenge story, or if you already did, another of her pieces.

A: ZOMG! *dies from happiness*

Paramedics: Noes!

THE END OF THIS STORY

I also noticed you guys have prompts as options, but the difference for RG thread would be that we have only one prompt and it would be shorter to describe (the latter is my vision at least. I think shorter prompts would do better for the short writing challenge)

I would want to encourage thinking outside the box regarding the prompts too, so if there is a story and a prompt that is not totally obvious, then the author could explain it in the thread. Like, prompt: Hate. Story is about: Girl shopping but jeans but none fit. So discussions regarding the stories entered would be overall welcome in the thread (as opposed to RM where no discussion is held and everything deleted afterwards. Not with writing challenge. In first post it would always link to the current challenge post, and people could take it from there)

---

If you guys have any questions feel free to ask :)

(and maaan is it weird not being the mod in such a situation T_T)

So what do you guys think? Can I RG-sug it?

-

Now I will post before I accidentally delete all this just like how I almost did a second ago T_T

@Writing Challenges

I don't see any harm in the RG implementing the writing challenges. I would like to know if it'd be possible to include a little advertisement in the first post of the writing challenges thread saying something along the lines of 'if you would like to write a story that exceeds the max number of words, please head to BWB (add a link)'...

This is my opinion and I would also like to consult Flipper to see if it's OK with her before giving you a 100% go on this. As of right now, you're at a 50% go on this. =P

I have no problem with pimping your forum at all. If I ever get allowed to make it, in the prototype first post, you guys can approve or disapprove the ad-blurb :3 =D There are too few writing focused forums here on FP, which is damned ironic -.-''

Wieee 50%! ^.^ Then I need another 50! And then I need people at the RG to approve D= Daunting task

*in meantime, does happy dance*
