I HATE modern poetry.

In fact, hate is too soft a word for the fury that reading such utter ** instils in me.

They never rhyme; they have no idea of beats and flow and they are always too pretentious for words. Masquerading as soulful when actually they are actually just a jumble of meaningless words.

I've even seen a poem that was just a sentence,

Hmm.

All very well, but to paraphrase, it was something like, "Your words are like feathers."

Right, so that was just a big rant - this topic does have a point, I assure you.

To practice what I preach, I have just written two poems in the 'classic' style of Tennyson and his contemporaries, although which are not half as good x_X.

'How to Die' and 'Elaine' are my first of these 'Olde Worlde' poems, and I'd like to know if they work or not.

I am most eager to hear your thoughts on the latter, as I haven't received a review yet, and I had the highest hopes for it.

If you're basing this hatred for modern poetry off anything you read on Fictionpress then you are obviously rather ignorant and unable to discern the difference between a crappy teenager attempting to write something gimmicky with actual modern poetry.

Have fun going backwards :)
