The butler let him in and Connie sat at her desk, sobbing.

"Mr. Gardener for you, Miss Woods."

"Connie?" he said moving around lay a hand on her shoulder. "What is the matter?"

She sniffled.

"Oh, Liam." she said softly. "I am so sorry you had to see me like this."

He hugged her neck. "Shh.." he said gently. "What is the matter?"

She rested her head on his arm.

"It's Father." she said, wiping tears.

"What's wrong?"

"Oh Liam... he's..."

She tried to keep a new bout of tears from falling.

"What, love?"

She looked up at him.

"He did not wake this morning."

"You mean he.." he could not say the word. "Do you have anywhere to go?"

She shrugged her shoulders.

"Sam inherited the house, hopefully he will keep it for us." she said. "We have next to nothing without him."

"You could stay with me," he said. "The house most be lonesome."
