Again, Lily had to grasp her skirts as she ran though the field.

"I hate this dress!"

He yelled, "She said yes," as came through the door.

"It's okay." she said, trying to keep from bouncing up and down. "Where are they, anyways?"

Lily shrugged and followed him.

He took a deep breath.

Mrs. Caine pointed out sketches in the catalogue to her husband and Maggie, who was a strong advocate of a white ballgown she'd seen for her sister.

Howard glanced up and saw the pair.

"Lily! Aggie! Come in!" he greeted.

They ran in.

Lily finally managed to trip on her skirt and fall on her face. Maggie laughed and went to help her sister.

Auggie was her side.

Lily got up, blushing profusely.

"I'm fine, I'm fine." she mumbled.

"I wanna see the ring!" Maggie exclaimed. "Are they diamonds, Aggie?"

"Mmhm."

Maggie beamed.

"I told him to get diamonds." she said knowledgeably. "But Ma said they'd be too expensive for him."

Lily smiled.

"Lilly was worth the money

Lily looked at him adoringly, and Maggie beamed.

"I told you so." she said to her mother, who ushered her out of the room.

Aggie kissed her.

She beamed at him.

Pa chuckled and sighed.

"And I thought Kath was gonna give me a heart attack." he mumbled good-naturedly.

Aggie just grinned.

Lily giggled and got up.

"I'm gonna write to Kath." she said, grabbing Aggie's. "Come on, you can write one to Jack."

"We're really doing this," he laughed.

She laughed.

"Yeah, I suppose so." she grinned. "Come on, before the mailman comes."

He let her lead him.

She went into the parlour and picked up some paper and two of the new fountain pens Pa had bought.

"Here." she said, handing some of the supplies to Aggie. "Now I have to figure out what to say."

"Me too."

"Dear Kath," Lily said dramatically. "Guess what? I'm getting married!"
