"Sure sure." Kate chuckled and shook her head at him, "If I remember rightly, you were never 'always' a good boy."

“The one time O steal you an apple I never live it down,” he laughed.

She laughed and nodded,

"That's right, and don't you forget it." she smiled and looked around, "So what are you doing around here?"

He whispered. “Remember I told you I joined a fighting unit? Were not part of England we’re fighting for Ireland!”

Kate nodded then her eyes grew big and she pressed a hand to her mouth,

"Albie... are you insane?" she asked softly, glancing around, "What are you thinking?"

“Standing by while they rape our land is insane,” he told her, touching her shoulder.

She bit her lip, looking at him closely. He was determined, she realised and sighed, reaching out to hug him again,

"You could get hurt, Albie." she murmured against his chest.

“I know,” he said seriously. “But if we win It’d be worth it..and you’d take carea me right?”

Kate sighed, lookign up at him,

"Of course I would. You're my oldest friend, Albie. How could I do anything but." she admitted and slapped his arm, "But you had better not give me need to take care of you. You hear?"

“I’ll do my best,” he grinned. He pecked her nose like he did when they she dared him to kiss her when they were five. “Just remember your always my best friend.”

She narrowed her eyes at him, recalling that memory as well.

"You had better, sir." she smiled then and chuckled, "Always."

He simply smiled.

Kate chuckled at him and touched his nose affectionately,

"You gotta promise to be carefulthough, all right?"

He gave her a tender hug. "You know I will."

"Like I said, you had better." Kate reitterated and reached up to tug his hair, "Come and show me around then, oh, and this is Connor."

He took her hand and led her aroun,after mumbleing hi to the artist. Kate wit other men was not somthing he liked.

She smiled at his antics and waved Conner along. She would not leave her new friend alone amongst strangers, that was just rude.

He liked her neing there.

As Connor followed her his mind spun.They were going to start a rebellion! He thought.It made sense now why men were rushing about,and why so many were missing from the place.

Then three men with rifles jogged past them.These men were going to start a war...

His expression was thoughtful and he realised his heart was beating heavily now.

"Kate"he finally said,his expression urgent."We should leave.Now."

Just then Seargeant Rory came up to the group,his face red with anger,blowing heavily.

"Soldier!"he shouted at Albie "In the name of God we have a war to fight.Civilians are supposed the leave this place not bloody enter.The full might of the British army will be here at any moment"

He gave a start. "But..si-ah Sarge was going to a nurse last time we talked..let her stay," he had meek voice.

James still checked defenses. "What's all this shite about?"

"The kid wants this girl to stay."Rory said grimly."Its unacceptable.They could be spies for all we know."

he reguarded the sence for moment. "hmm."

Rory crossed his arms,regarding James."Spies have ruined us throughout the years.We can't risk her,especially this other man.Besides,I haven't seen them much 'round these parts."

"Put her with nurses and him I'll qestion."

Rory nodded.Not wanting to grunt at his decision in front of soldiers."Very well sir.You.Woman"he said bluntly"If your staying you will be helping the men with ammunition and nursing,and as for you-"he turned to Connor."You follow cap here and no harm will come to you,from us anyway.Don't rely on the Brits."

Connor gulped then but still offered a cheeky smile."Yes ...eh,sir yes sir,on the double sir"

Rory glared at him."This isn't a joke boy just because you want to impress the lady here,so cop on!"

Connor blushed,not over being shouted at but the fact that this man thought he and Lucy were together.For once in his life,he let a man get the last word,without comming out with a witty remark.He followed James.

He went to the GPO basement and sat the man in a chair. “Are you Dublin born?”

Connor shifted in his chair.He thought it best he should lie about the first fact at least.

"No,Clare sir."

"Why are you not home then?"

"Moved to the city in order to work sir.Like any an honest Irishman."
