![]() just whatever. where you from? an OT topic is often used like a msn or aim chat - sometimes i see forums where posts get tossed onto the OT so fast you can land 1,000-2,000 mails/day if you don't turn the alert option off. I personally turn the alerts off, they can get messy :) that or just sub to a single topic rather than the entire forum. 8/31/2009 #23 |
![]() oh well, yah OT is often used to get more posts on a forum, more people tend to come to them if it has 1,000's of posts and looks active... :p so feel free to talk about anything here :) use as a chat room with no loss of data, and when/if it fills up I'd just make another :p 8/31/2009 #24 |
![]() okay, as for where am I from... I am a guy who lived all his life in France but now moved to North Carolina for study at Wake Forest University. I am currently studying Bio and Computer science and am thinking about doing a double major. 9/01/2009 #25 |
![]() wow, nice. for me - I've lived in san diego all my life with the exception of 2 years which i lived in Guam... I'm currently studying English - (unoffically) i just started school again yesterday... I still need to get off my ass and change my major from 'undecided' 9/01/2009 #26 |
![]() Went to san diego once before to help with recovery from the wildfire. I more or less figured for the English major (most likely if you are writing a story). So, what decided you to start writing this story (can't call it a book yet)? 9/02/2009 #27 |
![]() Sadly I cringe calling it a book - book would mean you've published one already or it is published otherwise it’s just a story... (At least in my opinion) The story, I started writing in 10th grade when I flunked out of honors English for an entire year and had to take summer school... then I started writing a fairly large story (the blood trails - only posted part of it here, don't read it, it will make your eyes bleed) when I found FP I wanted to post something on it, but realized the story I had been working on from 10th grade to the start of my first year of college was terrible... After a semester of accomplishing nothing English wise in college (I failed the entry test had to take a course under 100 for cr/no cr) I ran into a second semester (after I failed the first 'you failed the entry level exam, let’s put you in stupid English' class) with a 'last resort if you don't pass we kick you out of college for being illiterate' English class. During the start of the class I was taught what I was never taught before (due to overseas schools for 2 and a half years) grammar.. With that simple first 3 weeks of school on grammar only my skills in English exploded and I sadly realized my first story was so terrible the only way it would be post-worthy was to completely re-write it.. Which I wasn't ready to do.. So after plotting down a long story line, I skipped FAAAR into the future of my first writing and that’s how this story started.. I'd say if writing ever works out for me there would be multiple books between the original story and WW4... none of them being on Earth itself. 9/02/2009 #28 |
![]() Hmmm... had you not told me this, I would never have guessed that you had at some point failed English. I never particularly studied grammar, our english teachers just basically told us to write and corrected us year after year until the rules just seemed to bore in of their own volition. This is an interesting time for me, moving to the U.S. after having spent my entire life in France. Still, I love to read (as you may have guessed when I read your entire story in one night) but I would never see myself become an English major because I don't love to write unless it's something I choose. I only get fired up by my own projects and not something that is assigned to me. 9/02/2009 #29 |
![]() Whoo online at the same time (downside being my 30% batter and no powercord) Yes, I failed english twice in highschool then once in collge... and almost got kicked out for failing to pass the min requirements.. somehow due to a good last teacher and a lot of help from a Fictionpress user (i think) named Baby Face, my writing went from terrible to great in about 3 months.. i pretty much did nothing but corrections and learning and went from failing english to top of my class and passing in my sleep... I went for terrible to the guy people go to for help on writing a good paper... amazing what 3 months with a European who knows 5 lanuanges (English being her fourth) can do to you skills.. 9/02/2009 #30 |
