Topic: I am inflicted...
I am infected with writer's block. I don't know where it exactly came from but I think it had alot to do with one of my characters. She is turning out to be a cold heartless witch and not truly falling in love with the guy she is suppose to. She is turning quite selfish. I can't write because she is confusing me. I should really just kill her off.

lol! poor girl. and damn this things been up for less then a min and already getting peeps!....YAY!

*caugh* anyway, ugh! Hate it when that happens. But sometimes its really fun and turns out better. Not usually though.

maybe then you should just let it happen. You know, let it flow naturally. Is is really screwing with your plot? Maybe there some way you can twicke it to suite the character that has become- is becoming- and work on another character thats more like the one you had in mind.

I can sympithize, I have extreme writters block. I'm rewriting the beginning of a novel, where my characters are less developed (they change and mature throughtout the story), and I'm having trouble writing them as they were origanally like . . . kinda the opposite of your problem, I guess.

In my story I included character developement. The characters started one way (say cowardly, or annoying) and were developed into something better, (Say brave, or at least brave-ish, and polite). Now I'm revising the beging of my story, and I keep on writing the characters acting the way they're supposed to act at the end. It's really annoying, and I don't really know what to do!

You have to get a grip on those characters, they are writing themselves. It is very annoying.

that sounds kinky.lol! try remmbering why those characters behaved the way they did in the start of the book to begin with.

"That sounds kinky" *blushes* If I could get a 'grip' on some of my characters, I would.

Writers' block is something we all jhave to deal with. I am currently, as I type this, writing a climactic battle scene for one of my stories.

Do you have any plot or character notes? What was the general plot line?

Oi, writers block stinks.

I suffer from writers block constantly, it's so baaad.

Anyways killing off characters is just an easy way out so unless she needs to die for the plot I'd say leave her alone and write a short story or twenty until you overcome writers block.

I find walking alone, and music helps with mine.

Then again I rarely ever finish a story.

Music is good, but it influences my writting too much. Say, if I'm writting something sad, and happy music starts playing, unless I'm really involved in the story, I'll start writing something happy. I've had to make seperate playlists for different emotions I want to write!

WRITERS BLOCK SUX!!!

ok i think we all agree by now that writer's block does indeed SUX!

and that playlist thingy is a good idea. Make a playlist of songs that remind you of whatever it is your trying to write.

taking your CD player, ipod, whatever, on these walks with you is also helpful.

If the character is giving you hell then maybe you should try go and doing whatever is was you were doing that made you think ofn the character and plot to begin with.

I agree music does influence too much. I can switch songs and at the same time switch idea or stories altogher.

Oh my Gosh, I am never happy with my writing. I’ve never written anything I just Love and am Proud of. Writing is such a love in hate relationship, you almost have to hate it to do it. Yeah, I’m aware that sounds kind of insane.

I'm often pleased when I write the fough draft of a story, but when I go back and reread it, I blush and cringe in shame.

polka dots and addictions
aah, the dreaded writers block. When i got it really bad once i wrote a writers block poem, which then cured my writers block =] so writing about it definatly helps.

Or, if you know your plot well, write about a paragraph about whats going to happen & then skip to an interesting scene that you'vee been looking forward to, write it, & while you write that you can be getting ideas for the bit you left. I'm only 13 pages into the story i'm writing at the mo so i haven't needed to do that yet, but it works generally.

Then again, i've neevr actualy completed a book.

No in a way you're right. It takes a lot of time, determination,

and patience to keep writing untill you get it right

but to keep on doing it is true courage! So keep on trying!

i think the reason we don't seem to like our own stuff is because no matter how weel we do it we always think we can do it better. That's what me Da' told me and I have to agree.

I get most of my inspiration when i'm just about to fall asleep so i'm too tired to get up and write anything down. Hence by morning i have forgotton everything.

Music helps alot with poetry but i don't understand how it would help with writing a novel...

I hate it when you have a brilliant idea for the foundations of a story but have no idea how to write it or what the details should be. Or when you have the details and characters but no story...

My characters just sort of blew up in my face. They were supposed to be generally good but acceptably flawed. Now they're evil. My main character has become a selfish liar, her tough best friend is sprouting sensitivity, the funny one is just stupid and a little mean, the efficiant leader is a jerk, and the one character who was supposed to be like all of them are now is just sitting around bemoaning her fate. Only the annoying old guy is the way he's supposed to be.

But I stick with it. Just take it as it goes, go with the flow, roll with the punches, all those metaphores. I think they're better this way.

And I ramble a lot, so I'm going to shut up now.

Or when you have the details and characters but no story...

That is my problem with this story I am working on.

I have the characters and the beginning plotted out; I still have no idea of what the ending should be.

There is another story where I have the characters, the beginning, and the ending; the middle stumps me.

you have to know your character down from their favorite foods to their blood type. But having a detailed character and no plot...maybe you can let the charcter become the plot. Come up with soem drama and then write about how the character reacts.

But stick with what you know and understand! Having a great plot but little understanding can ruin a story. Research is hard but neccesary, unfortunatly. Sigh...
