Topic: Starting Over... and Over and Over Again
ok. i start writing a story and i'm all excited about it because it's all flowing so perfetly. then five chapters down the line, i hit the evil brick wall. i go back a bit and try to see where i was going with the story, and then i end up rewriting it because:

1. every little single mistake i made is poking at me with a knife.

2. it isnt flowing right.

3. new ideas change previous events.

4. the characters dont seem right to me anymore, even though my beta reader says my writing style is fine.

some help please. i really, really want to writer/post my story.

I have the exact same problem. That's usually why my best stories are the ones I write in the middle of the night and just go non-stop. I also have this obsession with writing down the character names and such so by the time I get around to writing the story I'm bored with it and so I write the first one or two chapters and give up....it's so frustrating.

Much love and BIG KISSES,

Steph

I hate it when that happens. One thing I do when a story just isn't WORKING is I open up a blank document and start to write with no clear plan. That usually gets me a pretty good three or four pages of chatter, which has occasionally formed into a new story.

A new story may not be what you're looking for, but it gets the brain juices flowing, as my mom would say. Think of it as a warm-up. I don't know if it works for everyone, it just works for me.

You said that you write/post stories? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Posting chapter while you write them is the most common mistake a FP writer can make! Because once you hit the wall, all your fans (if any) are going to have to suffer waiting for you to fix your story. Trust me, I know people who do that and I've done it myself and suffered for it too!

Hahaha, I "accidentally" do that all the time with the naive hope that this time I really will finish it "for the fans!!!" And then...six months later...its 3 chapters are still collecting dust...and I just...can't...bring myself...to keep...writing.
