![]() The rest of the soldiers took up positions at either side of the bridge .They were tense. The tank across the bridge seemed like a dozing monster and if discovered that monster would awaken. An eerie silence fell on the men. 6/13/2009 #271 |
![]() Although he didn't show it, Klein was very nervous. The darkness hide their movements slightly but if anything went wrong then they would be in trouble. His grip tightened on his pistol until his knuckles turned white. Steady, he thought to himself, Stay steady. He looked at all the men. Major Render could do such a better job. He's blessed with skill on this and I'm not. But I will still do my best, because that's all I can do, all any of us can do. The country needs us to do that or the Reich will fall and that can't be a good thing, even if they are not completely in the right. 6/13/2009 #272 |
![]() Suddenly a low-droning noise could be heard in the distant skies. The droning grew louder and louder. "Bombers" someone hissed and sure enough Bomber planes could be seen comming in their direction. "Let's get out of here" one whispered urgently. "No" said another. "Their not going for us.Their is no way they can spot us anyway." 6/14/2009 #273 |
![]() Klein's head shot up at the sound of the planes, his heart pounding in his chest but he quickly relaxed. "He's right," he whispered, "They will not see us in the dark, come on." Carefully he lead the way into postition across from Gerber's men who were already lined up. It was almost action time. 6/14/2009 #274 |
![]() As the planes got nearer the sound became deafening. "This is our chance to blow up this bridge" one called out over the noise. "Let's blow it sky high!" 6/14/2009 #275 |
![]() "Ja," Klein replied, "Let's blow them to hell!!" At the same time, both Klein and Gerber gave the order for their men to throw all their exposives at the bridge at once. 6/14/2009 #276 |
![]() They did so and portions of the bridge exploded, sending large concrete chunks spewing into the air before crashing into the river below. At first their seemed to be no commotion. As if the sabotage had gone unoticed. But then a siren sounded from across the river and the tank grumbled into action. Its turret turning ever so slowly in the direction of the Germans. 6/15/2009 #277 |
![]() "Let's get out of here," Klein ordered. It seemed like a very good idea. 6/15/2009 #278 |
![]() The tank fired,a tree bursted in explosion causing the trree to twist then land near the soldiers. "Jesus!" one yelled. "Ja lets go!" The squad all made for the treeline as the tank fired once more. 6/15/2009 #279 |
![]() Klein hurried back up and reached Alvin, grabbing one of his Major's arms. "Someone else help me get the boss," he shouted. 6/15/2009 #280 |
![]() Zeppelin jumped over a low bush on the edge of the tree line three fifty cal rounds from the tanks mounted gun ripping past his head. "Shites, how many of them are there!" He yelled as more rounds pounded into a tree near by. 6/15/2009 #281 |
![]() "Enough to know they'll kill us if we stay" one yelled as another tank shell exploded above their heads. 6/15/2009 #282 |
![]() With Klein's help, Alvin managed to get to his feet and they both made slow progress behind their men who were streaming past them. Gerber ran over and wrapped an arm around Alvin's other sides. "Come on," he said in a strained voice, "We've got to move faster!" 6/19/2009 #283 |
![]() The squad had made it past the forest onto a country road. "Think we lost them" one German panted. 6/20/2009 #284 |
![]() Alvin turned his head slightly to look back the way they had come. "Good." "Sir," Gerber said, "Your injuried, we are all tired and we've done all we can do. Don't you think it would be a good idea to head back?" After a moment, Alvin gave a small nod. "Yes," he said, "It is time to head back..." 6/20/2009 #285 |
![]() The soldiers started shaking hands and patting eachother on a mission well done. 6/20/2009 #286 |
![]() A faint smile crossed Alvin's face as he looked at his men. "Good job boys," he said, "You've all done a wonderful job." 6/20/2009 #287 |
![]() (To axis base then eh?) 6/21/2009 #288 |
![]() ((Yup, back to the base. You going to post any more with Jan in the German headquarters or are you going to put him back in the base soon too??)) 6/21/2009 #289 |
![]() ((oh yeah. hmm dont mind)) 6/21/2009 #290 |
![]() ((I don't really care where you decide to put him. *shrugs* I posted in the Headquarters.)) 6/21/2009 #291 |
![]() An American scout car roared ou of the trees away from the advanicng german column. 8/06/2009 #292 |
![]() Alvin noticed the car and his heartbeat quickened in his chest. He was sure that the car had seen them. It could only mean that they were going to see battle in the matter of minutes. "Get ready boys," he said, pulling out his pistol and checking that it was loaded, which it was. 8/06/2009 #293 |
![]() Sherman tanks burst out of the clearing firing as they roared towards them. American soldiers followed behind firing anti-tank weapons and machine guns. The German armour raced forward across the clearing firing as they went. German soldiers scrambled out of the troop carriers trying to find cover to return fire. 8/06/2009 #294 |
![]() "Fire!" Alvin shouted, standing up in the jeep and firing his pistol into the American troops, shotting two of them down in one swift motion. Twisting around, Alvin shot a glance at Wendell who was nervously loading his gun. "Easy there Corporal." He rested one hand on the man's arm before turning back towards the fight. 8/06/2009 #295 |
![]() One sherman tank exploded suddenly sending shrapnel and hunks of metal into the air. Meanwhile American troops were flanking right, attacking the light infantry of the 42nd company, hoping to get in behind the German line. 8/06/2009 #296 |
![]() "Captain!" Alvin gestured to Gerber. "Get your men over there!" He pointed in the direction. Gerber saluted quickly and shouted the command to his men, leading them to stop the flanking movement. 8/06/2009 #297 |
![]() The American soldiers had taken cover and were firing now on Gerbers counter attack. 8/07/2009 #298 |
![]() Gerber and his soldiers fired back at the Americans, although they didn't have as much cover. As the fight continued, and some of the men were falling, Alvin gave up on the jeep, he didn't think that he was doing much good just shouting orders and so he climbed down and limped over to where Gerber was fighting, determined that they would not lose. 8/07/2009 #299 |
![]() Suddenly a pannzer tank arrived behind the Gerbers men, spraying machine gun fire on the americans in the treeline. The Americans realised they were outgunned and their flanking move began to falter as they withdrew. Meanwhile in the front lines the Americans who were outnumbered greatly began to lose their lightly armoured shermans to the heavy tiger tanks which punched through their lines, threatening to encircle the American group. 8/08/2009 #300 |
