![]() For when troops are on the march. 4/29/2009 #1 |
![]() General John Buford and his calvery road along the road. They'd been riding for an hour or so and the sun was climbing higher into the sky, making the air alot warmer. So far, they'd not run into any trouble but Buford hadn't been expecting any for a time, at least until they got up closer to the reb army. 5/07/2009 #2 |
![]() Colonel Devin really wished he'd had another cup of coffee that morning. The steady rocking gait of his horse was slowly lulling him back to sleep. 5/07/2009 #3 |
![]() Buford had finished the pipe he'd started that morning and he slowed his horse a bit to refill it, the sun hot on his back. 5/07/2009 #4 |
![]() The colonel's horse kept walking, had his eyes been open he'd have reined her in before getting to close to Buford. Seeing as they weren't though Buford's horse flicked it's tail in warning, spooking Devin's mare. 5/07/2009 #5 |
![]() Not noticing how close Devin's house had become, Buford brought his horse back into a steady trot. 5/07/2009 #6 |
![]() Devin's eyes opened wide as he felt the mare jolt to the side, grabbing the reins he attempted to calm her but his balance was uncentered. Before he knew it he was on his back looking up at a clear sky, groaning loudly he sat up and cursed. Glaring at the mare as she moved to the side of the road to graze. 5/07/2009 . ![]() This time Buford noticed and he reined in his horse next to him. "Devin? Are you falling asleep on me?" 5/07/2009 #8 |
![]() The colonel barked out a harsh laugh, still on the ground. Afraid to stand, he knew his back would be killing him the rest of the day. 5/07/2009 #9 |
![]() Buford swung down from his horse and noticing a stream nearby, refilled his canteen and dumped the water on Devin's face. "Get up Colonel." 5/07/2009 #10 |
![]() Sputtering water Devin glared at the General's back as Buford mounted his horse and moved off again. His anger only increasing as his mare came up behind him and nudged his back with her nose. 5/07/2009 #11 |
![]() Glancing back at Devin, Buford smiled slightly. "Get back on your horse Colonel. You aren't setting a very good example." 5/07/2009 #12 |
![]() Devin was dumbstruck, he wasn't the one dumping water on junior officers. 5/07/2009 . Edited 5/07/2009 #13 |
![]() The smile faded from Buford's lips. "Colonel. I said get back on the horse." 5/07/2009 #14 |
![]() Trying very hard not to let his emberassment show, and the fact that he was rather angry, Devin stood and slowly moved to the side of his mare. Glaring at her as she turned her head to look back at him. Swinging back into the saddle he was sure he felt his back pop in a few places. 5/07/2009 #15 |
![]() "Thank you. Don't let this happen again." Buford nodded once and rode back to the front of the line. 5/07/2009 #16 |
![]() Devin didn't reply, he had an aggressive personality and was afraid what would come from his mouth if he did try to say something. 5/07/2009 #17 |
![]() Some of the men were laughing and looking at Devin as Buford rode away. They had all found the encounter between the two officers very amusing. 5/08/2009 #18 |
![]() Devin grimaced, his uniform soaked through. 5/08/2009 #19 |
![]() "Cheer up Devin," Buford said, looking at him, "In this sun it'll dry fast." 5/08/2009 #20 |
![]() He nodded, though he was already growing uncomfortable. 5/08/2009 #21 |
![]() Buford watched him as they rode. "Don't be mad." 5/08/2009 #22 |
![]() He raised a brow, not really sure what to say. 5/08/2009 #23 |
![]() "You appear to be more awake now." Buford said, still looking at him. 5/08/2009 #24 |
![]() He suddenly laughed at that, "I would certainly hope so!" 5/09/2009 #25 |
![]() Buford laughed as well. "Did some good then, I'm glad." 5/10/2009 #26 |
![]() Infantry Lewis stared at the front of the sea of soldiers, holding a hand to his forehead to keep the sun out of his eyes. Somehow, he and the noncombatants had wound up in the middle of all of this, but at least they were on the outside of the mass of people. Next to him strode his scrub nurse; next to him walked the docotr whose name he didn't quite know yet, he was new so for all intents and purposes his name was New Kid. He wouldn't be surprised if they had to fix somebody during the march--it wasn't uncommon that, as ridiculous as it sounded, somebody tripped and got...trampled, to say the least. Personally, he'd never seen it happen, but he'd heard the horror stories during CME--not pleasant thoughts. .. Charlie grinned, seeming to be pleased that they were finally moving. Will inwardly sighed. The boy had about as much energy as a border collie about to go out with his master. Still, he guessed it was a good thing at times... 5/12/2009 #27 |
![]() Infantry Chamberlain started out riding his horse out in front of his regiment, the 20th, although before too long he would climbe down from the saddle and walk for a bit at the front of his ranks. It was something that drove Buster crazy, the old irishman would always tell him that he should ride the horse that the lord provided but Chamberlain believed that a good officer didn't ride all day. 5/12/2009 #28 |
![]() Infantry New kid spoke up. "So, sir, you served in Conneticut, right?" "Yeah." Lewis didn't bother to meet his eyes--overall, he wasn't interested in the conversation New Kidhad to start. However, Edna began to talk to him. "What about you?" No, no, no! You'll start him talking, and these young guys never shut up... Lewis thought, catching her eye and barely shaking his head. Too late now, though...This would be a long march. 5/12/2009 #29 |
![]() Infantry Chamberlain continued to ride in front of his men, not speaking to anyone, just thinking to himself and getting lost in his own thoughts. 5/12/2009 #30 |
