I Shot Mel Anne Kholiabrandnewday, although I think your work may be appriciated more in the freeform section of the forums, I can still offer my opinion if you feel you desire advice. I think your ideas, like many here on fictionpress are just begging to be released. Your poems seem to have something waiting to be released, but are just short of doing so. The best thing I can advise besides more time dedicated to editing of your work, and perhaps lengthier sessions of brainstorming is this: In high school, I had a teacher I thought very, very shallow and misguided. Perhaps we all feel this way when we go through the educational process, but this teacher in particular just... irked me ;). However, if the teacher did teach me one thing I will carry for the rest of my years, it is this... When you write, show, don't tell. Show us why you feel this way; show us people in the past, present, or future who feel the same things you do; show us repercussions of the actions you take or feelings you have; show us poetry, don't tell us. | #2 Oct 28th 2006, 4:16pm . Matthew Huxthat is exactly the reason I despise the summary they have you write on the poems because I would much rather have the poem speak to each individual rather than have them look at it in any particular light. |

I Shot Mel Anne KholiI think you should find the difference between explanation, and brief summary. I believe the summary they offer for fictionpress is designed for the author to share only the most basic emotions or ideas in a work. After this is given, any reader can appriciate the poem immediately, instead of having to decrypt every single line when reading. This makes things easier for readers, which may or may not be needed here at a place like Fictionpress. But that's a debate for another place :P| #4 Nov 09th 2006, 12:02pm

Bitter IronyHello, everyone. I just feel like complaining, if you could all bare with me for a minute. :-(Ever look at your user stats and see that you're on the favorites list of x members, and then look and see that you're down to x-1? That just happened to me, and I'm trying to figure out who took me off their list. I'm a little confused...I mean, I don't think I've done anything controversial or insulting recently. Am I taking this way too seriously? Can anyone think of why it might have happened? ~Bitter Irony |

I Shot Mel Anne KholiIf someone changes their penname, does their new name show up if they favorited someone? It may not, so perhaps someone who favorited you changed their penname. Either way, I don't see the big deal. If someone is really a fan, they'll visit your page if they've added you or not.| #6 Dec 14th 2006, 11:05am

Bitter IronyYes, their new pen name shows up...and yes, you're right, I am making too much of a little thing. I'm just jumpy, I guess. Probably because of a pair of scathingly sarcastic (and unfortunately, fair) reviews I just recieved. I don't mind that people don't all enjoy my poetry: I don't claim to be a genious: but if they really don't like it on basis of opinion only, why do they need to be sarcastic about it? And why do they need to review more than once? I got the point the first time.Of course, the second time, nothing was said about the poem itself: just a stupid joke I put in the intro. I know I'm not one to preach on maturity, but really... ~Bitter Irony |
