Okay, so in the same vein as the "favorite god/goddess," I thought it'd be good to have people mention/discuss their favorite myth(s).

Being the Hermes fan that I am, his story is one of my favorites, but the love story between Cupid and Psyche beats him, I'm afraid.

So yes, technically that's a Roman myth, but that's why I mentioned Hermes. =)

What about everyone else? Feel free to discuss or share!

In Greek mythology, it's Eros and Psyche.

My favorites are all the ones with Artemis in them. You know, it's really weird. I like her, but she's pretty nasty if you look at her myths.

It's funny because I know it's a Greek myth, and yet as I was writing my post, I convinced myself that Eros didn't exist. x) Anyway, I'm a sucker for romance, and for once, it wasn't about incest or randomly impregnating mortals.

I love Artemis myths, too, but yeah, she is kind of...an "unpleasant" goddess to the guys. Case in point: Actaeon. Mwahaha. The conception of, or rather, the mother being pregnant with, Artemis and Apollo is also interesting. Another good myth (completely unrelated to Artemis, sorry) is the one about Phaeton.

I like that one too.

What do you think about Calypso?

My favorite myth is the decision of who Paris gave the apple too. I mean you have Eris who started the whole thing bc she wasn't invoted to the marriage and so she threw the apple of discord, made of pure gold, and then thus started the Trojan War.

Yeah, and that's what the beginning of Sleeping Beauty was based on. You know, the thirteenth fairy getting mad because she wasn't invited.

yup, a lot of stories are based off of greek myth.

I love that movie by the way

I admit I have never seen the movie. By the way, has anyone ever caught on that Fluffy, the three-headed dog in Harry Potter was based off of Cerberus from the Greek myths?

yes I caught on to that. I didn't know other people caught on :D

I realized that whe nI was six and my first thought was, "Hey, those ancient Greek people copied J. K. Rowling's idea!"

The thing about the Greeks copying J.K. Rowling is really funny. Among my favourite myths are Jason and the Argonauts, Oedipus and the Sphinx, Heracles, Persphone and Hades and the Calydonian Boar

My favorite goddess is Artemis. I don't like her - she's nasty in pretty much every myth - but I like the stories. I also like Pasiphaƫ, mostly because I think the name is cool.

o.O - S.A.D - O.o

I only caught on this year, when I spent all my time on the computer researching Greek Mythology--after reading Percy Jackson, I've sort of been obsessed with it!

When I read the description of Cerberus, it was on the edge of my mind why it sounded familar; then I went through my Harry Potter phase again, and I actually screamed when I finally figured it out!!

Yeah, there's tons of allusions to Greek Mythology in Harry Potter. My favorite myth would have to be Orpheus and Eurydice. It was the first myth I ever learned and it just sort of stuck with me all these years.

Persephone and Hades, a dark love story

There are so many to pick from, and I love most of them. But picking one? I like the story of Hades and Persephone, and Eros and Psyche is pretty good too. :) Another good one is Atalanta.

i personally can't choose. so many people are writing stories these days that move all my fave gods and goddess's into the 21st century and i have to admit that i find that pretty spectacular. anyone read any of the pc cast books on the gods and goddesses? absolutely awesome but very chicky. she does a great take on the story of Apolo, as well as the Persephone and Hades thing.

There are two "l"s in "Apollo."

My Mom's a proofreader, and I guess I kind of inherited her proofreading skills. Also, I get really defensive and technical about Greek Mythology.

I'm actually really anal about my spelling (odd considering the mistake i made) because MY mum can't spell for shit. made me a little OCD. Get as defensive as you want you're obviously passionate. I love the stuff but it still has the tendency to confuse me. often ;)

Well I see you're not too anal about grammar...

I'm fine with spelling mistakes, but not in things like published writing.

Yeah, Percy Jackson got me interested too. And I too was shocked to discover where the idea of Fluffy the Three-Headed Dog came from. And he was put to sleep by music...just like Cerberus! Lol.

I love the Calypso's story. For some reason, it's one of my faves. :D

Hi everyone, new here. So if I'm breaking any protocol, please forgive me.

Anyway, I love Greek Mythology. I think my favorite myth would be the one with Perseus and how he slayed Medusa and rescued Adromeda from the sea monster. That's a good one. I'm so mad that in the Clash of the Titans 2010 movie, they put Perseus with Io. Why the heck would they put him with that crazy?

I also love the one that tells how Athena was born. That's probably one of my most favorite Greek myths after the Perseus one.

I guess my favorite one is the one about how Athena turned Arachne into a spider. It's so sad. but I like how it explains about why spiders weave.

Athena's descendants got me interested, great fiction book, maybe a tiny bit better than the Percy Jackson books, but not by much :)
