Topic: The "Ghetto" stereotype.
*sighs* How did ghetto evolve into a stereotype of ignorant wannabe gangsters?

Well, I would honestly say it's a fad. It was always around, but now it's cool. Given time, it will die out (hopefully xD) like everything else.

Well, personally I think it is just a few people affecting this...ignorant people see examples of what they think is "ghetto" and automatically go off of that and stereotype everyone else who is from a ghetto like area. Personally, every stereotype is that way. You see a gothic person who is mean or rude...you think they are all that way though it isn't true...that's just the nature of people...to be judgemental.

This was like the big stereotype of the late nineties to early 00's. Now "emo" or whatever spawn of that has turned into the new fad for being.

Teenage phases go like that. There was grunge in the early nineties, pop and indie in the late nineties that spun into the "ghetto" rap hiphop thing that a lot of kids did and now we have "emo" or whatever you want to call it.

Well that is not really true..all those stereotypes are still around. Ghetto is still around, grunge is still around, emo is becoming popular, hxc is popular. I just think that that isn't nessesarily true that they are just a phase. I know punkers who were like that back then and still are. I just don't think you can group an entire decade into one stereotype...just because that one is more prevelant in society doesn't mean it is the only one.

That's what I meant though. They're still around sure but as a prevalent stereotype, teenage phases go like that. They come around for awhile but then get replaced.

You are correct, stereotypes are still around that have been around since forever. Instead of old stereotypes dying, more are just being added, I think.

By the way... what is hxc? I am not familiar with that one. lol

lol 'hxc' means 'hardxcore' or 'hardcore' Usually refering to actions or music. I agree with you, but at the same time it depends on who you're thinking about. If you're thinking about the person falling into every fad that comes along than, to them, steryotypes die out. But to people who don't change over periods of time, i agree, you see less and less of certain steryotypes, but they're still there.

Technically for people who go along with everything that is in fashion are called "scene" Hxc is referring to a type of music that involves a lot of screaming. I don't really pay much attention to stereotypes...but like i said I'm more punk/hxc so therefore I hear more people stereotyping that...if you are into the ghetto scene...you hear people stereotyping that...personally the only solution to this is for people to stop using these labels and stop making assumptions about people.

This is a boring topic. I mean, there's nothing to argue about. We all agree that stereotypes suck. Blahh.

I could argue for stereotypes to liven things up, but I'm not really sure how to defend it.

They're okay for beginner writers because it gives them a "default" basically on how to style their character. From there, you'd hope they'd try to make their character their own...but maybe that's optimistic of me.
