Topic: Original fic Vs. Fanfic
I notice that I get more hits for fanfiction versus original fiction. Why is that?

I think it is easier to come up with stories for fan fiction, because the character are already created. The only thing you really need to work on is the plot. However, in fiction, you must create a solid plot, characters that aren't Mary-Sues/Gary Stus, and setting. With fiction there is a lot more to come up wtih. Personally, what I do first with fan fiction, and I am trying to do with fiction, come up with a plot I truly like, then create everything surrounding it.

I agree with what Eclipse said. As for why you'd get more hits or reviews for fanfiction verses original fiction—for one, I think it's easier to find fanfiction. When I'm looking for something to read on FF.net, I usually go directly to my favorite fandom (totallynotafandomgeek), choose my favorite character (or characters), choose a not-so-scary genre, and click on the first story that has a well-spelled summary.

On here it's much more difficult to find something that might interest me. At least FF.net guarantees characters and universes I enjoy and the only challenge is finding something well-written. I'm more likely to forgive badly written fanfiction because it amuses me to see my favorite characters placed in different situations. With original fiction I don't give a wisp of wool for any of the characters, at least at the beginning.

Simple, people want to read what they know mostly. People like the idea of seeing the established characters in situations they haven't seen them in. If I tell you that I have a story where some random guy falls in love with a girl he normally never would and it leads to all of these issues. You might be like, "Eh, that's normal."

But if I say, "Character A from Show X falls in love with a Character B from Show X and it leads him down a new path" then as a fan of that show you might be inclined to read it.

Agreed. But I'm not interested in fanfiction really. I tried to write some back backfired. I feel as if I'm better off creating my own stuff. I don't read fanfiction anymore because I just became annoyed at how people took the characters and their situations and twisted them into something else. Just annoyed me lol. I like original works by anybody.
