What are your favorite kind of stories to write?

I usually tend to write fantasy or humor but I think my favorite kind of stories are full of action and fight scenes. I'm not good at them- fantasy/humor is really my forte- but I love writing them.

Celtsea is a lost wandering soul trying to find her true callling. She had narrowed it down to fantasy/supernatrual or crime fiction.

Well I like to write all kinds of stories , but whatever ones I write have to contain at least thhe following :

1. Blood ( no matter how little or how great )

2. Humor ( sarcasim is the best weapon of choice )

3. Abnormal ( be it a ghost , talking frog or vampire )

Any of my stories always contain those three things , otherwise I couldn't function properly while writing a story lol. Supernatural is my first pick ,but lately I ahve been wondering to fantasy and fairy tales .

Well, I happen to write a lot of fantasy. I'm trying my hand at sci-fi, I always have some hints of romance in my stories. I also have a realistic piece or two. But I've only got one story I'm posting.

I want to be able to write fantasy/science fiction stories so badly it hurts haha, I’m not kidding. Anyways I’m trying to write one right now but it’s not going very well. Argh, they are my favorite you’d think I’d be able to spit one out.

I like writing fantasy, romance, and things that I'd like to call thrillers, but aren't quite. Someday I swear I'm going to write a romantic suspense story - that's mostly what I read - but my mind is blank for a plot as of now.

Um, Humor/angst? If that's phisically possible . . .

I just love both genres so much, although I know I'm better at humor, I could hardly chose!

I used to love writing fantasy/humor. My favorite genre to read is still fantasy/humor, followed by morbid humor.

Writing though.... Hmm, I'm not sure where I fit. I write more character-centered stories that focus on their thoughts and views. I especially like having the main character go insane and kill a few people. Humor sneaks in when it can. Angst also finds its way in, no matter how much I beat it away with a stick.

I have many ideas for fantasy novels or stories, but only my poetry ever turns out finished and halfway decent. I also have a soft spot for fable writing which usually turns out all right.

One day I'll blow you away with my mad fantasy writing skillz, but in the meantime check out my other stuff.

How much research do you do?

A pretty significant amount. As a History and a Literature student, there's nothing that I find more infuriating than an anachronism in a story purporting to be a historical...

And really, what I find with historical fiction is that just because you're setting something two hundred years before your time doesn't mean that you reader believes that it's set two hundred years before your time. I mean, yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of Stanislavski and his obsession with naturalism in theatre (I disagree more with the methods than the concept, but that's neither here nor there.) But I do think that people pick up books or read stuff in order to be transported, and what's the point of setting something historically if your reader just isn't going to go there? And how are you going to make your reader go there if you haven't been there, immersed yourself completely in that time and that culture yourself?

I think that made sense. If it didn't, I don't think it's ever going to. But what I was trying to say, I think, was that: yes, I do research. I research by reading history books, by reading other historical novels set in the time period I'm setting my piece in, by watching films, even by watching documentaries if it comes down to it. Because I don't think that it's possible to write a really good piece of historical fiction -- or mythological fiction, even -- unless you have a complete idea of everything going on in that time period. There's no point writing a piece of fiction about the Trojan War, for example, unless you know all the myths relating to that war, all the myths, even, that don't, because particularly with this example, almost all Greek myths can be related back to that conflict. It's a kind of six degrees thing.

...whoops! I rambled! Sorry!

Romance sneaks into nearly everything I write whether I mean for it to or not.

I write fantasy and humor...and angst I suppose. I have always been fascinated with strong emotions and I love to play and experiment with my characters' emotions; anger, joy, envy, fear, sadness...

I have ideas for a couple historical pieces and I have been doing some research for those, even though I haven't actually started writing yet.

I always have so many ideas, yet very few of them turn into actual stories...I have numerous unfinished pieces of stories/novels...I have a sort of collection and I pull ideas out of them occasionally...

I love ghosts and vampires, but I am still searching for an original plotline to come to me...I do not want to be cliché and write the same old, girl-falls-in-love-with-vampire, will do anything to be with him for eternity--drop her whole life just to be with him, plot...

I like history, fantasy, and I've more recently moved into modern fables/ short dramas. I used to write a lot of tragedy, but I've written several that I, at least, consider humorous.

I've attempted writing stories from a series of different genres. However, I prefer writing historical/adventure/romance/drama/fantasy stories. I never really go into realistic fiction since I find that living in current times makes realistic fiction a bit dull to read and more difficult to write.

I'm with you on that realistic fiction thing...I just can't do it.

Besides, isn't "realistic fiction" at least a little oxymoronic?

My stories are mostly realistic.

I like me some good ol' fashioned fantasy with a little touch of sci-fi in there.

I also can't find myself doing a story without at least a little humor sprinkled in now and then.

I like to write short general vignettes, about real situations. They're sort of like little insights to these random points in peoples' lives.

PS: I should feel like I'm selling myself on this but I don't: I believe in the courtsey of you review me I review you. Cheers!

I prefer not so much a certain genre as much as different formats. Not necessarily experimental, but not the "typical" narration. For example, I have written a story in the format of a message board (which this site won't let me post). I do try to write the more usual type of narrative, but I normally never finish those kinds of stories. Maybe I'm just weird.

occasional humor, horror, trama, angst, and tragedy. ooh! And suspense.

i like to get a lot of grimaces and horrified expressions when my stories are read. that and tears. of course these are good responses to the content of my stories, at least in my opinion.

I like to write about drama, humor, and baseball! All my stories are about them though. Some of my other stories include action and suspense

My favorite kind of stories to write have to do with the supernatural. I find it the supernatural as something that's really interesting to read, write, and even watch.

satire.

it doesn't matter to me what other genre it may be as long as it has a good fun time poking fun at some upheld standard.

I'm more of an angsty romance fan. I like both angst and romance really. If I can throw em both in, hell, I will. Fantasy I also like to write once in a while. My specialty is angst though really. I'm not sure what I like so much about it. I think it's the fact that when written right, it can really get to you. It can make you see the world in a whole different light.

I'm not saying other genres don't do that but I think angst does it the most to me. That's why I write angst the most.

I tend to write character-driven stories, with lots of underlying humour (although I've posted two so far). I also like writing about relationships; between friends and family as well as all those soppy romances that we're all embarrassed to admit we like. :) (I've noticed that some of my newest plot-bunnies tend to involve sex to some degree or other; what does that say about me?) So I guess I write humour, romance, drama, fluff, elements of angst, er... that's about it. I also want to try my hand at historical/mythology at some point...

I can't write fantasy, sci-fi, crime or thriller to save my life; those genres need a dedication/imagination that I don't have. (I can't write poetry either, but that's another thing completely...)

Since I love reading or watching fantasy, I also love to write it. Also, I enjoy writing Science Fiction with a Fantasy twist. Sometimes I will even get ideas for a Young Adult piece, mainly because they usually deal with people with problems and I like to help people who have the same types of problems as me.

I love to write stories about celebrities, and I love to write about supernatural stuff as well. Two of my favorite celebrities are Corey Feldman and Corey Haim; they're pretty cool to write about!

I love writing Romance, especially with something else on the side. For instance, I'm currently in the planning stages of a Romance-Mystery. Other than that, I actually have a weakness for writing cliché teenage stories set in high school.

Anything that I write has to have romance, someone who's funny/sarcastic, action, and some emotional tug to it.

I generally like writing realistic fiction or fantasy that you forget is in a different country time to time because it's so much like our country. Historical is fun to write here and there too.

I always end up writing something really huge and epic. Unfortunately, there's a lot of research and thinking that has to go in with that. T_T

I guess right now I'm a sci-fi/fantasy kind of person. Oh, and romance. There always has to be some romance.

I absolutely love writing sci-fis with a hint of romance, plenty of action and comedy, and a hint of mystery. But if I had to chose just one category, it would be sci-fis because of all the freedom you have in writing it. You need a new weapon? You invent it. You need a new animal or spaceship? You invent that too. Need a new kind of people? Viola! You have it. You can be so creative in writing sci-fi, but you also have to make sure that you're completely original, otherwise no one wants to read your work. If it's just the basic we-landed-on-a-planet-met-a-new-race-and-took-over/became-friends-and-killed-a-common-enemy sort of thing, then no one wants to read that, because we've all seen that dozens of times. You have to add twists and creative plots to keep the reader's attention, so it constantly keeps you on your toes. I like that. :)

My favorite would be angst, hurt and romance. I love writing stories that evoke powerful emotions in my readers.

Normally its fantasy or sci-fi, what ever you call vampires, but I have written one about a normal teenager before that is pretty much a biography type of thing.

I love action. But I also love humor. I like action humor. I like romance a little, but only to an extent, not to big on all the mushy stuff. I like most genres, maybe that's why I love mangas so much. My favorite mangas are like many genres. Action romance comedy horror. I like that kinda stuff. I also like stories that mix it up a little. Things that are rare.

Without question there has to be a measure of romance in my story. I just cannot fathom a story without romance, and I have only managed to write a few, and read even fewer, without it. However, romance is usually a secondary plot to my stories. I'm okay reading or writing just a little romance if it's hinted. Sometimes that makes a great incentive to keep on imagining about it later. Usually my stories have some sort of moral to them. It's not plain as day, but if you look carefully you can easily see my opinions on a lot of matters. Kind of like brainwashing or putting in a subliminal message. I'm good at that. Genres I usually stick to are Sci-Fi, Supernatural, Semi-Horror, and occasionally Fantasy. I also really like to write stories where religion takes center stage, even though I myself am an Atheist. Oddly enough, I do like writing stories where Religion is good. But most of the time religion is hit pretty hard.
