So, I just joined the site a few days ago, and have been reading the forums and so forth. After writing nearly over 100 short stories based on fan fictions, I branched out and started writing original fictions. I see people on here do not really enjoy vampire fictions, and sadly, for the past eight to ten months that is what I have been writing. It was way before I sat down and read Twilight, or even really got into vampire stories as it was. Granted I write other things off to the side, but right now that's what I truly enjoy to write. Now shall we get on to the real point of this thread? I'm mainly worried that because there are so many vampire fiction stories on here, that mine will be less appreciated for that matter...I can handle criticism, but what I can't handle is being criticized based on the fact there's other writers who enjoy writing vampire fiction. Anyone have any advice other than "don't post it," that would be pretty helpful? Thanks!

best advice i think i can offer is preety much bone anyone who wants to crisize your works before they have a chance to appreciate them... so long as you enjoy what your doing and how your doing it ... theres no way you can be wrong... coarse its hard for some people to just laugh off bad reviews from posers so ill add in a bit of more practical advice... come up with something unique... when the company white wolf credited there vampires they went all out and adapted acncient myth into it as well as creating 13 clans of vampire (my favs the tremere) but they also went as far as to put in a vamperic doomsday brought about by there own works... if your wanting to get the players book for it its called Vampire the Masqurade... be warned though its fairly rare from what i recently understand and thus only likely to be found on ebay... my point is anyway creat something that makes your vampires unique... like they can walk in the sun but only if theyve drank a virgin dry since the previous sun set... or maybe vampires that become cured of there desise if they complete a certain act for the church or whatever... its up to you but so long as its unique and gripping i seriously doubt youll get flamed to hard... and if you do fall back to my previous advice... i hope that you enjoy fictionpress by the way and please do check out some of the authors in the area... some people have alot of skill on this site and i find myself being inspired all the time based upon what i read online.

Awesome, thank you. I'm currently working on a series, and well the first one isn't "unique" so to speak in someone else's eyes, but is to mine because I've been writing since I was 12 (I'm 20 now) and I've written all the same and so when I branched out, I branched towards Vampires lol

im glad i could toss in my two cents... if you want i can work on a project with you... at the moment im currently working on a bit of fantasy myself but im willing to bounce ideas around with you... i enjoy the magic and supernatural scene so i hope you take me up on the offer and i can sink my mind into the world you create... i guess one other thing would be to add that i myself am better with lycanthropes and arcane things... greats atdescribing them and such... but anyway thats neither here nor there... im glad your confident enough to continue and if your looking to working to gether or just bounce ideas... message me either wirth email or with a text...

Every genre has its own set-backs, and every branch within those too. With vampires it is natural to be disregarded as most stories play out the same. Cool vampire male lead meets female. Romance and angst ensues. This has been a typcal formula that some appreciate and some don't. While some won't even look at your piece because it is about vampires, know that other will look at it because of the vamp-factor. There's a crowd for everything. Just do your own thing and try to have fun while you're at it.
