What element do you value most in a story?

The feel. I don't know, but I feel bored and uneasy when there's too much bias or the "I'm right, you're wrong" element. If the Writer is mature, so will the character. That's why I try to avoid the "I tell you" element and other bitchy kinda elements that just make you want to strangle the character. That way, even though your Characters themselves suck **, your stuory will rock.

So the words and the feel. ;P

i love characters, they're the most important part of the story. if you have a boring storyline, if you have fantastic characters then the story will be good. it's been proven time and time again in classic works of literature to be true. i also love dialogue.

Quality, style, and character.

I always like the entertaining and witty, but formal style. It looks very formal, but at the same time the book just seems really personal, and can hold your attention. I don’t like deadly and boring reads.

Characters with realistic personalities and features makes it so much easier to relate and see.

If the quality is bad, well, too bad, no one’s going to read it.

Quality, storyline(or plot), and combat. I'm like to imagining the story into an anime or a RPG so if I can't do that I consider the story don't inetrest me even if the writer has decent writing skills.

The characters.

I find I can't really enjoy a book, even if it has a great story line, if the main character is too stereotypical.

Character development/description. Nothing annoys me more than an action-packed story with flat characters. The do-gooder hero who is well-behaved and absolutely always right annoys me to no end. I could care less about what and how unless I have who, where, and why.

I agree with Kay. Style and Plot.

Style above all things. The simplest event or character can become epic if it is transcribed with great style.
