That depends on the story. Dungeons and dragons call those that study magic wizards, and those that are born with magical powers sorcerers. Sorcerers learn their magic quicker, but can only use magic that's inside of them. Wizards take years of study and research, and have to find or take magic spells in order to learn them, but can pretty much learn any magic they can find.

I like if they can cast any kind of spell, but study takes too long! That's why I like magic wands and magic rings and stuff.

This site is slower than fanfiction. Magic items are important to fantasy, but it's not a good idea for characters to rely on them too much.

I don't like it when you just use them a few times and then they're no good anymore.

Neither do I. I've seen stories where something works only once. They don't want magic to solve everything. But then they shouldn't make magic items so powerful.

Sometimes they only work one time a day or only if a girl uses them or a redhead.
