When our tale begins.........

((I start!!!)

Cady looked up at Cross. "I'm not going to tell you my name, not until I'm caught. I can't risk it. You may think you can handle it, but even I can't. There are times when I feel like I've forgotten it because people call me James so much. Then there are the times when I just want to shout it at people so that they would stop calling me James, stop reminding me that I'm faking everything."

(So you wnna just keep going is that it or what? it could be fun to give them some deeper background n stuff)

((I just want to keep going on this forum until it is necessary for us to take it back to the original forum.))

He nodded. "I understand. I don't want to make it harder for you."

(Okay we'll keep going with this, but posted some thoughts in Plot.)

"Thank you," was all Cady muttered in reply. She hoped she wouldn't get caught, but she knew she would remember her promise to Cross. She looked at the entrance of the tent and wondered what tomorrow would be like. At least she had lasted through today.

(Oh how do we plant the seeds of Romance in Mr. Cross :S)

His heart thumped heavily as he looked at her slim frame. She deserved better the fate she was given, this new nation they formed could be a better one. She deserved to be her own woman. To forge the life she was fighting for. "Just be carful, James," he said concern in his eyes.

(Gah! Fiine :P My hopeless romantic side wants him to gather her in his arms here and now, and kiss her soft sweet lips. But he'd get a big old slap wouldn't he? :O) )

((She would initiate a slapsgiving and he would be in constant fear of her hand, so yes. A very big slap indeed....or ten....))

"I know," Cady said as she left the tent. She reached up and touched her much shorter hair. It would be more difficult for anyone to discover her now, but she didn't feel right. There were times when she forgot what she was fighting for, then she would remember that she was fighting for her independence, for the South's independence. Her country shared the same story as her, and now they were fighting together. She put down her hand and let out a sigh as she made her way back to her own tent. She made a point not to share it with anyone by choosing an extra small one. She would be left alone, at least for the rest of the night.

Cady awoke the next morning to the sound of gunfire. She rolled out of her cot and reached for her gun. Her first thought was something along the lines of Where is Cross? She paused after this thought. Well, that was weird and rather unexpected. She barely even knew Cross or anyone else in the unit. She made her way out of the tent, but there was no firing in the camp. She wondered why no one was awake and moving in this area yet. That or they had left her behind. Now that would really stink.

Cross came, struming back with the men on picket, a few less then when he had went out. "Yankee probe!" he yelled.

Cady almost dropped her gun. Just a probe. She felt stupid. She had overreacted. Now that she thought about it, the gunfire wasn't even that loud. At least she knew that the Yanks were close. It was almost guaranteed action in the next couple days. Fun. "Is that all?" she asked. Maybe the Yanks were closer than she thought.

"Stand down, James," he half teased,

Cady crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm not being that rowdy," she retorted. "Are we going to get some action today or should I just go back to bed?"

"I think Billy Yank will just walk round us a bit more today. They're slow in their head and feet," he grinned.

"Cowards," Cady muttered. Now that she was up, she was ready for a fight. "Who's next on picket duty anyway? I know I still have at least a few more hours."

He listed off the names and sat down by her.

"I don't know why, but I really want to shoot something today. Y'know, just for the heck of it," Cady said. She still gripped her gun in her hand. Sometimes she had days like this where she felt some fire-eyed fury for some reason. Luckily some of those days had been days of battle. She hoped she would be able to relieve some of that tension today. If a Yank got near her, he would be sorry...

"I saw some deer running round, Sergent Wright won't shut up about being hungry."

"It's okay," Cady said as she stood up. "I dunno. I guess I'm a little confused... or frustrated. One of the two. Talking to you last night... Well, I guess I felt more like myself than I have in awhile. I never thought escaping my home would make me feel so strange."

He smily nodded.

He nodded. "Like you left to escape what you were but are trapped in who you are."

"Exactly," Cady said. "I mean, I still like it here, it's much better than home, but I still don't feel like I'm truly who I am. That kind of freedom is still hard to find. I dunno.... I guess I won't ever get to see that. I hope this isn't as close as I'll ever get, though." She shuffled her feet on the ground, kicking up a little dirt that dusted her worn boots.

"We're fighting for a new nation, we can make it a better one; the fight doesn't have to stop at just Men's rights," he whispered.

(He's a pretty idealtic dude for 1864 lol)

"I wish that was true," Cady said. "You and I both know how conservative the South is. They'll all still want their Elite Dolls instead of a strong, intelligent woman."

(Aww...she's ranting!))

"Not all us do."

(Que long stare and Holywood chesey kiss moment rofl)

Cady smiled at Cross. "I wish more men were like you. Things would be so different."
