Pretty much what the subject says. This will be about poetry and what you think about it. If you don't like it... then well... be nice because I absolutely adore poems and reading them and writing them and all that fun juice.

That's not vague or anything.

If you really want good discussions on poetry (because it's such a broad topic), try to find a forum in the Poetry section of FictionPress. Or make your own poetry-centric forum. This thread is limited not only because your topic is so broad but also because it's difficult to keep more specific discussions and arguments about poetry separated. If, however, you'd like to talk about a more specific element of poetry go ahead. We're (or at least I'm) listening.

Alright, then... Edgar Allen Poe. Thats all that really needs to be said. I find him to be a bit morbid (but then again, who isn't these days). What do you think of him?

mmmm. I have a love-hate relationship with poetry. I love it, but I hate it. Ok, who am I kidding, I hate it! I hate having to review it because I never know what to say other than that 'it's beautiful' or 'wow, really good imagery' and that sounds stoopid.

When I review poetry, I go on about flow and the like. I sound like a tampon ad.

Poe has mad skillz. This is irrefutable. And, I'm a mixture of you two. xD Flow, imagery, stuff like that. When people write with vague, non-concrete images, I kinda flip.

eh, poetry is okay. I only really read/write it if I have to (like, for school or something), and I can often understand what poems mean, but I'm not really fond of the format. they're just not my thing...I can appreciate great poets though :) though if song lyrics can be counted as poems, then I like a lot more than I'm letting on XD

They have heaps of great lines, but the one that comes to mind is - "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - that you'd thought special, particular to you. And here it is, set down by someone else, a person you've never met, maybe even someone long dead. And it's as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." I think the sense of appeal in poetry is to emotion. We like to write it because it consolidates and expands our understanding. People like to read it because it also confirms and broadens theirs.
