What are the qualities that good romance stories have?

That you'll be able to feel the love and passion from the characters - in the sense that it truly brings out their feelings so that it's so vivid and unforgettable.

i find simplicity in romance stories very, very underrated.

sometimes, i can see great romance in stories which have no romance whatsoever. well, at the very least a story that hasn't got that generic romance ** -- i've got a slightly overactive imagination, so most of the time i see something that isn't really there in a story, so i can't provide a valid answer here.

When the romance is tied into something bigger and doesn't have to necessarily overwhelm the plot. And when it isn't completely and utterly cheesy.
