If I'm trying to write something really complicated and that it's really important, I need silence. I think I might have done this - music/think for ideas 'pause' write music/more thinking and so the cycle goes. A bit weird?

Actually, when i write, i HAVE to have music...it makes the creative juices flowing for me lol. As to what type i listen to....it can be any type of music because i love basically all types but songs i write with usually match the mood of the story or "feel" like a certain story...hard to explain about that though XD.

of course i listen to music when i write! usually happier music, or something to set the mood. right now i'm listening to a playlist i called "windows down". it's so cold outside, and i can't wait until spring when i can drive around with the windows down, so i made a playlist of spring-esque songs.

it includes : lily allen, pirouette, about a million, broken social scene, the kooks, the promise ring, kanye west, the arctic monkeys, matt costa, the cardigans, kylie monogue, no doubt, le tigre, a tribe called quest, lupe fiasco, uffie, modest mouse, regina spektor, the mighty mighty bosstones, rancid, jurassic 5, slightly stoopid, supergrass.

i love the "clueless" soundtrack, representing the 90's. :]

I can only listen to Tracy Chapman or else I get distracted :)

I find it real hard to concentrate in general at all really :)

I can't stand writing to silence...it creeps me out.

But I usually listen to soundtrack music, like Harry Potter (Fireworks, the famous Nick Hooper song, is my very favorite! But Flight of the Order of the Phoenix is good too) and Pirates of the Carribean, though I usually end up writing about pirates when I listen to that...but that's okay!!

Though while writing my muse essay, I was listening to RENT

Oh, I happen to listen to the latest hits, some classical ones, anime soundtracks (DNAngel), some movie soundtracks...

The DNAngel soundtrack is so good! I'm waiting for my friend to burn it onto a CD for me so I can put it on my iPod!

I listen to pretty much anything. it's more just background noise to keep me from going crazy when I type up long bits of text.

HOWEVER...there are times where I can assemble a sort of "soundtrack" for a story, that corresponds with the characters and plot very well. If I have one of those for what I'm typing, I often shove it in a playlist and have it go on repeat. :D

I may be the exception here, but I listen mostly to classical music while I write. I listen to different composers for the different atmosphere of writing, like Tchaikovsky for something emotional, Mozart for something witty. Yeah, the list goes on. I find they are such an inspiration to writing, others definitely should try.

Not only do I listen to it, I sometimes incorporate it into a story. It can be a real mood setter.

Yeah, I always listen to music while I write. Well, not always but a lot of the time. I mostly listen to Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Seether, 30 Seconds to Mars, Avril Lavigne (old look, not new look), Paramore, Flyleaf, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Lifehouse, AFI, All American Rejects, Papa Roach, KoRn, I could go on forever most likely if you kept me going so I'm going to shut up now.

If I don't listen to music while I'm working I get really jittery and hyper. I need to move. I can't while I write otherwise I'll usually lose the idea. Well, for like a chapter or a stand-alone. Not a whole story lol. Can you imagine that? Sheesh, I'd be on the computer for MONTHS! Haha, I don't think my dad would like that. He doesn't like it when I go on for an hour. =P So yeah, I listen to music when I write. Not reading though. If I listen to music while I read, I pay attention to the music, not the words...all right SOMETIMES while I read.
