![]() It has become a regular happening that whenever anyone reads anything of mine that is even distantly based on some kind of mythology, they tell me "Oh, this is just like the Percy Jackson series!". It's really angering, because I'd like to think that they aren't like the Percy Jackson series, since that wasn't my intent. Is anyone else coming across this in their readers? (Oh, and, as a note, it's usually not on FictionPress. Normally it'll be one of my friends or something like that.) 8/02/2008 #1 |
![]() Well, as a writer, and a fan of the Percy Jackson Series, I've been in your situation before. Have you ever read the series. Maybe if you read them, then next time you write something based on mythology, avoid any topic in the Percy Jackson books... And if your friends still comment about your stories, tell them that it's totally different, and it's based mostly off your imagination. -Just some advice that helped me well, JenaoftheWords 8/24/2008 #2 |
![]() Thank you! (: I really appreciate it. 8/24/2008 #3 |
![]() i don't even think i would have a problem being compared to that, for it's my favorite series. 11/02/2008 #4 |
![]() I get what you're saying. I really like those books, but yeah, I have the same problem with my story. In mine, everyone has some kind of elemental power that they command at will. My friends told me it was like the Nickelodein show Avatar. Yeah, i can see that, excapt my story doesn't suck. 10/08/2009 #5 |
![]() I have the same problem too. My friends always compare something I'm writing with a movie or book currently out. So annoying 3/01/2010 #6 |
