Up to the point where I want to name a character for my stories, I want them to be memorable and unusual. Some of the most common names are pretty memorable, and most of them are pretty stale to use. I thought up some names that I don't ususally hear from anime or name dictionaries so here:
When you think about it, when you learn Japanese, you realize that its pretty fun thinking up what is common, and replacing some syllables with another. I tried to translate these names from romanji to kanji, but most of them don't even exist.
Does anyone have any other names you don't hear often?2/09/2009 #1
Well I think Sanoko is a pretty name. i cant remember what it means or anything like that but I guess its not used because it sounds like the gas station.... But I still think its pretty. Nagasaki or Shinzuke would be nice names for boys, but like you probably do I just put together hiragana characters that sound good together and look up any meaning later.
Here's something I like to mess with people about the Japanese word for octopus is Tako pronounces like the English word taco... I know that was random but I enjoy telling people that!3/07/2009 #2
Well, if you're learning Japanese and you've got a good grasp of Kanji, making up unusual last names is pretty much limitless.
There's a drama that I saw awhile called Yukan Club, in which two of the characters' names are Miroku Shouchikubai (Miroku is the first name--- and he's a guy) and Seishirou Kikumasamune (also a guy). Really unusual but very unique at the same time. ^^6/30/2009 . Edited 7/02/2009 #3
