"I'm sorry." Clark bit his lip lightly. "Um, are you having a rough day today?"

"I don't suppose I can convince you to rest for a bit...? I'm actually starting to feel a little better than the last time." Clark tried to give her a reassuring smile.

Clark grinned at her happily. "I'm glad you think so. Although, I might not be able to go back to battle in this condition."

"I'm thinking about living here, in Texas," Clark admitted, smiling softly. "I've never got the chance to move anywhere else."

"That sounds nice." Clark rubbed his forearm lightly. For some reason, he thought he'd already met a sweet southern belle when he first woke up here. "I've never had much luck trying to settle down. There's, um...well, something's always trying to pull me back to my old ways and forget about it."

"Well, um..." Clark scratched his chin. "Well, I sorta grew up in the 'rough side' of the neighborhood. It's not really easy going through something like that."

Clark stared at her hand gesture, blinking a few times. "I'm not sure what else to tell you," he said. "I just have a hard time finding the right person to grow old with."

Clark nodded in agreement. "I hope so. So, do I have some sort of agenda today? I don't really like lying down in bed all day."

"It's not gonna hurt too much, is it?" Clark shifted in his bed slightly, feeling a little uncomfortable. He'd been thinking about what physical therapy would be like, and most of the things he imagined were kind of scary.

"Thanks." Clark smiled at her. "Hey, is there, um, a restroom I can use? I really can't hold it much longer since I woke up..."

Clark carefully stood on his feet for the first time since he came here. He could almost hear his bones and muscles creaking from the stiffness. "So, to the toilet?"

Clark did his best to keep up with Jess. He wasn't use to handling crutches, and they made him feel awkward as he walked.

"Can I just use one of these things?" Clark asked when he caught up with her, gesturing at the two crutches he held. "I only have one arm that's useful to me right now."

Clark nodded and limped inside the bathroom. "Um, do you have to come with me in here?"

Clark raised his eyebrow, a little amused somehow. "Why not?"
