So, I don't guess I need to say how much I loathe vampires yet again... but are y'all saying that Anne Rice was a yaoi fan-girl too? Sure sounds like it.

And I've never heard of this "Twilight" business - I take it it's a sickeningly-fluffy take on the vampire thing? Is it also slash?

Oh, and thank you whoever it was that just said "yaoi fans" rather than "yaoi fan GIRLS". **humph**

Miss Mysty

Actually, Twilight ISN'T Slash. The final book has Bella and Edward marry and defy all logic by reproducing. Although I speculate Edward is gay because he sparkles in the sunshine instead of exploding like a proper vampire.

SerialXLain

And it would just be awesome if he...GOT AIDS AND DIED! :cough cough:

I don't really like Anne Rice despite the slashiness of her books. Perhaps it's because I saw Interview before I read anything by her. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt can really fuck up your perception... ;_; I'm broken. zomfg

To Failte: Anne Rice was definitely a yaoi fan-girl, and I'm sorry for only saying yaoi fan girls before. I forgot, there are fan boys too. :-) Let's all be yaoi fan people. You should go read all of the Vampire Chronicles, right now! I know you'd love it. That's what started the whole sexy vampire trend. Twilight, disappointingly, isn't slash. In fact, it's almost like one of those annoying shoujo manga plots, where an annoying girl wins the heart of every hot guy on the block and beyond, but chooses the cool, dark, and handsome one instead of the sweetheart. Yes, I know Edward was hot, Bella, but Jacob was so heartbreakingly sweet and you broke his heart just because he was the wrong kind of monster. Yeah, you wouldn't like it, trust me. It's what annoying teenaged girls obsess over...though I know a boy who does too, and he's so sensitive about Bella's feelings. --cough--gay--cough--

Eternally-Dark: Yeah, I think Nikki was Lestat's first love. I wish he hadn't died, poor dear, but I don't blame Armand for killing him. Poor dear was going mad from vampirism, though you have to admit, a crazed violin playing vampire is kinda hot. Reminds me of Anne Rice's The Violin which is about a woman whose husband died of AIDS and she wanted to keep his body--necrophilia is not the way--but in the end, she moved on and fell in love with a violin playing demon. I'm going to read your story right now. I couldn't yesterday. I entered NaNoWriMo--and late--so I was rushing to catch up. Anyone else doing that? It's kind of fun, but I don't like being rushed. I like taking weeks and months to think things through before updating. --writers, the ultimate procrastinators--

Miss Mysty: I was thinking the same thing about Edward when I saw that he was...sparkly. My first thought was Oh Edward, you are so gay! And I kept thinking he and Jacob would one day decided Bella wasn't worth the effort and just make out. XDD --naughty thoughts--

SerialXLain: Maybe you should start off with a different book in the series. To be honest, I read Memnoch the Devil before any of the other ones and that's like, book ten or something. It's great, though, because Lestat and the Devil--who insists on being called Memnoch--have a bit of a love affair. Memnoch wants Lestat to stay in hell with him, but in the end Lestat has to choose between God and the Devil. He chose God...little hypocrite. Always mentioned not believing in god before. And then a lot of vampires comitted suicide because they didn't want to go against god. --liked the book-- It made me read the rest of the series, and a few of Rice's other novels, though I couldn't bring myself to read that biography of Jesus that she wrote....not my religion, so it made me uncomfortable.

AHEM AHEM AHEM. Have I not always said geeky vampires ftw? No? Well here it goes: My lover, as you may remember, writes vampire novels. Her current NANOWRIMO novel is narrated from an anxiety-ridden nerdy boy with glasses who has a panic attack every three paragraphs and throws up a lot - not to mention has shitty aim. His attempts to kill are not always successful, and he's not sexy is any way whatsoever. He also compulsively steals people's infant children... He's hysterical.

To Tenshi: I will have to The Violin. Have you ever read the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. All of them are pretty good but the latest book I read actually surpassed my expectations of vampire novels. Dark Need at Night's Edge one of the Immortals after Dark Series by Kresley Cole. Not your typical vampire romance. Instead of loving a human-which so many vampire stories have in em- the vampire in this story falls for a ghost. There's even a pretty sexy guy on the cover. (blushes while looking at cover) The ending is great-has a lot more climax than Breaking Dawn's and it's not even that many pages. Those are just must reads for me.

1. The Black Dagger Brotherhood series

2. The Immortals after Dark series

3.Peeps

4.The Last Days

5. Vampire Chronicles

5. Vampire Kisses

6.The Anita Blake series

And if you want steamy erotic vamp stories just look for anything written by Angela Knight.

Love the supernatural.

Eternally-Dark90:

Awesome. Thanks for the list. Now, I know what to read. I have Vampire Kisses 4, I've read the first three, but I was reading Mordred: Bastard Son, which is an erotic, gay fiction. --naughty girl-- I have an Arthurian legend obsession. But as soon as that and VK4 is done, I'm going to pick up some of your recommended books. :D

11/08/2008 #367
enternally-dark90

Haha, naughty erotica. Gotta love em. Now I have to read Bastard Son.

11/08/2008 #368
TheLadyPendragon

Yes, you definitely do. It's a great book, though it stretches the legend a little by making Mordred and Lancelot lovers. But it's written by a gay man, what do we expect? --giggles--

I've read the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles, but I find myself hating vampire fiction with a passion. I'm going to see Twilight in the cinemas only because my friend, who is a Paramore fanatic, found out that they did some of the soundtrack.

So yeah. I'm totally not going to ogle Robert Pattinson because, y'know, that'd be shallow and immature. Even if he is pretty much Jude Law Jr. Mmm.

*slaps brain*

Let's pretend that didn't just happen.

The thing that annoys me about vampire fiction is that there's so much of it. I only tend to like Fantasy/Supernatural when it's realistic and, let's face it, most of it is all "Sexy vampire man loves me!"

My best friend did once write a good vampire piece, but I'm not really all that bothered about vampire fiction tbh.

Well everyone's entitled to their own opinions. Especially the whole Robert Pattinson thing. He doesn't look like Jude Law to me-not at all. Not even gonna say anything about him playing Edward. I do understand why you'd hate vampire fiction so much-if read read a lot or see a lot of something it does get pretty annoying. For me it's those damn Twilight trailers. I know when the damn movie's coming out-don't need to be reminding on every channel I watch-I mean it's even on the food network.

Well I could never get annoyed at vampires, slash, yaoi or anything else that my crazy self is in love with.

the Italian

Why is it that vampire stories as a genre are always based on pre-existing material? What happened to being origenal? That's the point of this site, isn't it? As for an imperfect vampire, how about this: He's a Vietnam vet, covered in scars from the war and he got turned just after he got back. As a vampire, he still looks like he's in his twenties, though he doesn't have perfect muscle-tone or anything. He's out of work, he's depressed about killing people to stay alive, he doesn't shave every day so he's constantly walking around with stuble, he drinks too much, he loves dogs but they always bark at him because they can smell that he's a vampire, and he's obseessed with some girl (it can be a guy, whatever) but she (/he) thinks he's a hobo.

11/09/2008 #372
enternally-dark90

Well there are some original stories out there. You should write about that type of vampire-sounds like it would be a good read.

WHEN IS THE FUCKING VAMPIRE CONVERSATION GOING TO BE OVER? OMFG ;-;

Er... okay. Maybe we all can talk about something else. Anyone read or are writing anything good?

xD You don't really have to stop because of me. I just feel sad that I haven't read anything from this thread for the past 2 days.

11/09/2008 #376
enternally-dark90

Well it has gotten kind of slow. I wonder why. At first the vampire talk was really big but not many other topics have had anyone to post to them. In fact fiction press has gotten a bit slow. I spend most of my time on Youtube but I always try and see if anything new is posted here. Man I must be lame-seems like I'm never offline. I just know they're gonna start posting while I'm in school.

TheLadyPendragon

The Italian: Your idea for a vampire story sounds great. :) You should totally write it, I'd definitely read about your sad, veteran vampire.

SerialxLain: You're right...we've been talking about vampires too much. XDD I mean, they're fun and all, but we should move on. Has anyone read anything interesting, or written any good slash material? I read Charms and Curses by Drazuki---and loved it---but since I finished, I've been mopey and bored. Anyone got any suggestions on what I could read next? Have any awesome new stories been written?

PS. I feel like I'm always online too. I'm in NY right now, at my uncle's house, and the first thing I did was go online. --I suck--

11/09/2008 #378
enternally-dark90

Haha, yeah I'm like that too. One story I suggest you read is by Falite200. It's called The Girl for Me. It's a really good read. Never knew reading about a cross dresser would be that much fun. Oh another one I suggest is by kaine. It's called Forever Mine. That story had me crying like a baby.

I'm currently writing the 4rth chapter of The Vampire Gabriel. Busting my butt while watching Interview with the Vampire and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Quite the triple tasker.

Reply to Mr. Italian:

Sounds good, even if it doesn't turn out to be a vampire story. I like the part about being a "hobo" which made me smile.

11/09/2008 #380
SerialXLain

I agree. I think adding vampirism could even be overkill. o.O

11/09/2008 #381

To Sushe sunbonnet,

I know what you mean. Suddenly everyone is writing the same thing. And that takes away from those that are actually good vampire stories.

11/09/2008 #382
enternally-dark90

Wonder if sci-fi could be a possibility since everyone's so tired of vampires. Maybe even Lycans. Just putting it out there.

TheLadyPendragon

E-D90: Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them out. I think I might have read Failte's The Girl for Me, but I think I read it early on when it was just a few chapters. Is Forever Mine a tragedy? If it is, not sure if I wanna read it. Still will, though, because I'm a masochist. I don't like it, though, when I get attached to characters and they die. But I still read them. I read this one really awesome story called Calling by Delayed Epiphany and it was so sad. It's a oneshot, and I recommend it to all. Yep. I mean, the character was nameless, but I still fell in love with him. ;_; Still cry when I think about it. --sniffles--

11/09/2008 #384
enternally-dark90

Forever Mine was a huge tragedy that made me both mad and sad. I don't mind sad stories just they get a little annoying when the main character dies. I get so attached to the character and once they die it's like a friend of mine has died or something. I know the stories are fiction but I can't help it. I get this way about sad movies. Watched Beaches when I was like ten or eleven. Cried my eyes out-even Selena. So now all my friends anytime they let me read something or watch something that's sad they always bring out a box of tissue and prepare for the water works.

11/09/2008 #385
TheLadyPendragon

I get the same way sometimes. lol I cry during tragic fics sometimes. There was one called Bells and Ribbons by Olena about a terminally ill boy. He hasn't even died yet, but just knowing he's dying makes me so sad. And it said right in the summary A sad love story. But I still recommend it to one and all. :)

11/10/2008 #386
SerialXLain

Speaking of crying... I just got finished watching All About Lily Chou-Chou (again) and bawled my eyes out (again). I love that movie...

And to keep this thread somewhat on topic: It makes me want to write something where a teen ends up controlling a group of friends like in the movie. It's twisted and so...real.

11/10/2008 #387
enternally-dark90

Hmm, sounds like it could become something good. I just watched this slightly weird movie Elephant for the sixth time (trying to really understand it in a critic sort of way). Not really sure if anyone has seen it but it's kind of one of those movies that makes you reflect on life. It's about these two troubled boys that end up shooting most of the people in thier school-due to being constantly bullied and teased by their peers.

I may want to write something about that. It's a too serious topic but one I'd like to write about. So raw and vivid. Everyone has either been the kids that were picked on or were the kids picking on others. Tragic case when it comes to something so sad.

11/10/2008 #388
SerialXLain

The acting in Elephant was ruined for me. I couldn't take it seriously at all. :/ It's easier to actually look at real life...or Bowling for Columbine. Bowling for Columbine's more of a documentary, but I think that's what makes it cool. There's no need to worry about shitty actors in that since it's all real.

But anyway, it does sound like something that'd be neat to write about. One of those things that I think people would read.

11/10/2008 #389
enternally-dark90

I may have to watch that one. Elephant did have bad acting and was quite short-since the whole movie spent much of it's time following the characters around. Lately it seems like much of what I watch-out pops an idea for a story. Some movies could be lame but if ya write about it, it's sure to be damn good.

For some unknown reason I really want to do a slash about skateboarders/surfers. Make it kind of like Lords of Dogtown but keep it original in some ways. Movies just give me inspiration. Seen anything else that can inspire an idea?
