The Wingless RavenTopic: Digimon Discussion Holy crap! After dealing with yet another night's insomnia, I found myself watching old episodes of Digimon. And when I say old episodes, I mean REALLY old episodes. As in, the first season of Digimon.Well, after watching it, I began wondering, "How could the audience that picked up this show really understand some of the more older, darker themes?" I mean, seriously! I remember the part when the final form of Myotismon (Sp?) was revealed in the sixth second of the sixth minute of the sixth hour. How the hell can little kids understand that 666 is the mark of the devil and that Venomyotismon (Sp?) was supposed to be Satan? Watching these episodes now that I'm older, I understand a lot more than I did as a kid. I mean, in the last episodes of the first season it actually kind of scared me. Not a "Oh my god! The digimon are scary!" kind of way, but rather a "Wow, something serious is going on!" kind of way. How the hell are kids supposed to understand these shows we're throwing at them? Now, in the case of Yu-Gi-Oh, the more darker themes didn't REALLY emerge until a couple years into the series, by which time the audience had time to age. But as I recall, the digimon fanbase started at a younger age than Yu-Gi-Oh. I remember litle kids being able to tell you exactly everything that happened in each episode of digimon, but without fully understanding certain parts. I used to have a friend who loved digimon, but when their Christian parents watched it with them, they made my friend stop. Why? Because they just happened to watch the episodes with Myotismon (Sp?) and Venomyotismon (Sp?). So they didn't want their kid to pick up the wrong message, and made them stop watching. That was funny, seeing as my friend then started spending every Friday night at another friend's house, just so they could watch Digimon behind their parent's backs on Saturday morning. You know what else? Now correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember right, Digimon was actually on American airways before Pokemon was. By at least a year or two. If you can find any info that can either prove or disprove this, please, feel free to post the link in here. Oh yeah, and was Myotismon's (Sp?) digi-evolved form called "Venomyostimon" or "Venismyotismon"? I can't remember. And please remember that I've never actually seen the names written down, so I'm really sorry if I spelled them wrong |
