The title is pretty self-explanatory, this thread is for average joes. Before you post, a few reminders: 1) If you have somehow missed a little thread called "The Rules, Read First" you need to go read it. Right now. 2) The following is the basic template for character sketches. If you have some attribute that you feel doesn't even fit into "Other" (God forbid...), you can create a new parameter under "Other." -------- Name: Age: Gender: Height: Weight: Hair Color: Hair Style: Eyes: Complexion: Build: Strength: Weakness: Personality: Likes: Hates: Fears: History: Special Skills/Training: Other: ---------- 3) It's a good idea to post what kind of story this is from (i.e. romance, action, etc.) at the beginning of your post.

*NOTE: I can't say too much about William's history because it becomes a major plot point later on in the story.* Name: William Justin Randall Morrisson, Baron of Morrisson Age: 20 Gender: Male Height: 6'0" Weight: ~ 180 lb. (the issue doesn't really come up, only included for reference) Hair Color: dark chestnut brown Hair Style: curly, slightly longish (the tips can just touch his shirt collar) Eyes: dark brown Complexion: fair (with a few scars) Build: athletic Strengths: tactical planning, survival skills Weaknesses: alcohol, fear Personality: polite, chivalrous, gentlemanly (when civilian); commanding, does what needs to be done (when in military) Likes: reading, talking, long runs Hates: long marches, battles, watching friends die Fears: being captured, being killed in battle History: William is the second-born in a family of nobles, and the only legitimate heir. He is sent off to war at age twenty, unmarried and childless. While knowing full well that he could die at any moment, he also knows he has a duty to marry and produce an heir of his own to continue the family line. He is engaged to be married when the war ends, but wants to find a way out. Special Skills/Training: hand-to-hand combat, firearms Other: Because he is of the nobility, he is styled Lord Morrisson, Baron of Morrisson. When his father dies, he will inherit the title of Earl of Morrisson. Because he is also in the army, and is the son of a noble, he is automatically given the rank of Captain, and during wartime, the noble style is dropped and he is referred to only by his military rank. He is referred to as "Captain Morrisson," "Lord Morrisson," and just plain old "William" in the story, depending on where he is, who is speaking, and what is going on. ----------------------------- I will be honest. I considered posting Will under "Fantasy," but I realized he didn't have any wacky weird powers and decided to post him here. Why Fantasy? Because the world he inhabits does have magic, but William himself does not have the ability. (This is why I said don't worry about the setting.) I have other characters I'll probably post there, but for right now, Will is my totally "OMG I so hope you're not a Gary Stu" panic-button pushing character. I usually have one of these every book I write - it just usually isn't the lead. Thanks. ~Jordi-Li

To quote joe, "For anyone other than the nobility, that name would border on pretentious. Thank God he's the nobility." It works for him because you expect the nobility to have semi-pretentious (read: long) names. It's long enough to seem noble, but not grandiose. I love the fact that he has scars. I get so sick of see characters who have supposedly been in a lot of fights but have flawless skin. It's just not realistic. I also like the fact that while he's very good at fighting and the things that go with it, he's not really good at much else. It's not as though he can go paint the next Sistine Chapel or anything. It's very realistic because most people are good at what they do all the time, but not much else. All in all, a very realistic character. Not a Gary-Stu in the slightest that I can see. Joe and I might actually go read it, it looks good. Au revoir, gaelic
