Topic: Harry Potter
Ok, a nice universal book to begin with. Unsurprisingly I love it. I think it's imaginative and Rowling's used techniques like foreshadowing (Sirius briefly mentioned in the first book but he doesn't make an appearence till the third)to great effect. Saying that I feel like she's neglected editing in her later books because she knows whatever she writes will be lapped up.

What are your thoughts?

I can't wait for them to come out, although I sort of don't want to read the Harry Potter book because it's the last one and there's never going to be any more. When I've read it then that's it, I can never look forward to rushing through page after page trying to stop myself from skipping to the end. I dunno, is that stupid?

No, not really. I would hate to read an end as well. Plus I fear that the end may not be all that great... I hope I don't be disappointed in this book. All the others were good... Of course they are saying that someone HAS to die in this one. Bah, oh well.

I thought Rowling has said that two people will die. Anyone want to place bets?

aparently too main charaters that she didn't expect to die are going to die and she has hinted throuh \out the books and on newsr3eleases about he new book that Harry isn't going to make it my theory is that either Voldermort win or both Violdermot and Hary did in the epic battle that is for sure going to happen when i get the book i am proaple going to skip to the end and read the last page ortwo if i can't help it

Pff. I wouldn't ruin the fun of the book by skipping to the end. I will read the whole thing. I just hope I won't be disappointed.

There's no way I'm skipping to the end, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I did. Also I don't think Harry will die. (Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.)

Exactly. It would ruin the whole thing. I can't see myself doing that either. Oh well. I hope it is good though. Haha Epic. Powerful. Blah blah all that. It would be quite the twist if evil won or something. I would laugh out loud. It would pretty much be like Warcraft III. The undead won in the end, I think. Oh well. Anyway, yeah. I can't wait to read it.

I think Harry's going to die in the end. He's going to take voldemort with him, o' course. I think Snape's gonna die, too. And a few of his friends (harry's) Like Neville and Luna, though I hope it's not them. They're two of my favorite characters. I also think some of the weasley family is going to get knocked off. There's no way that big a family of order supporters are going to get out of it unscratched..or more scratched...whatever. Am I the only one who didn't like the 6th book? It seemed like....filler. I know //SPOILER// (for the six people who haven't read it xD) Dumbledore dies in the end, but everything before that was just...blah. At times I felt like I was reading fanfiction..albeit really, really good fanfiction, but fanfic nonetheless. I can't wait for the 7th one. And I'll be sad once I'm done with it. Seeing series end is always hard.

I think the problem with the sixth book is that is wasn't edited and some stuff in their was pointless or just dragged on. Half of the time nothing seemed to be happening. Still, I enjoyed it and the filler stuff didn't spoil it for me.

I have no idea who will die in the seventh, I only think Harry won't.

A bit. *laughs* I don't really like the Harry Potter /books/ that much, especially HBP. Honestly, I'd be happier to see darkcyan on ffnet update one of her stories than see the seventh book come out. But I'm going to have to read it eventually, cause you just know people are going to use /some/ of it. And I'd like to know what to nitpick.

I think that harry is so going to win becuase i saw the cover of the &th one and it was gold and red and it was so obvoise that Harry was completely winning! i don't know which good guy is going to win but it might be hagrid or the Weasley twins? Maybe I'm just caming up with the sadess ending possible or some thing but still. To tell the truth i would rather Harry die than the twins or Hagrid. well since I'm already writing a monolong better make it proper. In my opion, the movies are pathetic. I am going to try to see the fifth one on theater but they still pathetic. The third one is the only one that is good. Also you guys talked about the filler in the 6th one and I liked that. It deosn't all have to be action. i love that filler stuff exept in the fourth when it was really realistic. Why didn't Chrouch just hand him a piece of paper thats a portkey. Sorry about the monolog but I like stating my opion.

LOL. I LOVE Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling is a brilliant writer who understands the human psyche, has something to say, and knows how to craft a good yarn. I absolutely LOVE how she uses foreshadowing, and how, despite the fantastic nature of her world, all of the characters are essentially human beings. With enough contemplation, you get into the head of each and every one of them.

That said, I tend to be rather tight to what can be argued out thouroughly in my predictions... Here are some.

1) Lucius Malfoy is toast. When he escapes from Azkaban he will be wanted by both sides... A rather tenuous position, wouldn't you say?

2) Voldemort will try to get Godric Gryffindor's sword to create another HORCRUX (ack! Why did I put portkey? lol). He KNOWS the diary was destroyed... Do you honestly think he won't try to create another one to make up the magical seven?

3) R.A.B. is Regulus (Arcturus? Alphard?) Black. He used Kreacher to help him get it in the first place. The locket was at Godric's Hollow when they were cleaning it out last year, taken by Kreacher and hidden somewhere, perhaps stolen by Mundungus and traded to the keeper of the Hog's Head (the other Dumbledore?).

4) Mad-eye Moody strikes me as the type to go down fighting, so I think he'll die in the next book, though I'm not placing my full faith in that.

5) Remus will NOT die, despite my beliefs before book six came out.

6) Harry will end up facing Snape and Voldemort, Neville will face Bellatrix, and Remus will face Fenrir. You KNOW it's gotta happen, lol.

7) Harry will stop being an idiot, and get back together with Ginny before the final confrontation occurs.

8) Snape is neither fully evil, nor in any way good. He is out for himself and his friends. He will protect Draco and Narcissa... Perhaps Lucius, but, because we've never seen them interacting, it's hard to say.

9) I think Voldemort will discover what a 'fate worse than death' is.

10) I KNOW that veil will come back, as will the love room... I just don't know how.

11) Remus just MIGHT keep in better touch... But I've been wrong about that many times before, lol.

Fred, George, and Peeves are the best, no question about it.

I was quite peeved when they took Peeves out of the movies. lol

I think that Rowling gets better as she writes. I like how she writes for an adult audience while still keeping hold of the kids.

EXACTLY, Tris.

Each book, you can see not only how her characters progress, but how SHE progresses as a writer. Her books are DEFINITELY not just for children. There's a depth to her writing that people of all ages can appreciate and enjoy. What I REALLY love, though, is the fact that you can RE-READ the books and pick up more things each time. Or how later books illuminate spots in previous books you hadn't noticed or paid attention to before.

Yeah it's a shame that a lot of things had to be cut from the films but it had to be done (unless the films laster four hours of something). I'm looking forward to the Order of the Phoenix film and final book although I think it'll be kind of sad when I've read it and know that it is the absolute final one and their will be no more 'Harry Potter and the...' At least they'll still be two more films...

I know, it's how movies work. At least they didn't butcher them. It is kind of sad, but kind of a relief, too, that the seventh book will finally be here. There's going to be a conclusion for something!

"i love that filler stuff exept in the fourth when it was really realistic. Why didn't Chrouch just hand him a piece of paper thats a portkey. " (from earlier on)

I'm just curious, why does fantasy need to be really realistic?

It needs to be realistic so it can be believable. I know that magic schools and wands are hardly beleivable stuff, but the author has to write it in such a way that the reader will feel like it's actually there. That way, the reader gets so engrossed in the story that they can't put it down ;D Something I wish I could do.... -.-

Except me. My little brother stole it, and then while he was taking FOREVER to read it I read the wikipedia summary instead. :D And now I'm too busy reading other stuff. But I know pretty much what happened. (Hanging around on CaerAzkaban, the group with the most posts of any yahoo group, tends to spoiler you rather.)
