I'm stuffy and boring and dear God, nineteen and building a college life in the wonderful People's Republic of China where censorship abounds. Sometimes, writing seems like the only thing that's keeping me sane, but then I remember, who needs sanity when one's got Christ, the all-inclusive One. :)

A huge THANK YOU to any and all who have ever taken the time to read and/or leave a review.

STORY OF THE YEAR:

"Twenty Thousand Gold Stars: A Novel About an Internet Community" by Dusk Peterson
(Link to the story at author's website)
Recommendation: I will try my best to be concise with this one because there is simply too much to say about TTGS. Briefly, it is a contemporary story based on reality about the struggles of adults attracted to minors. According to her author's note, Peterson spent three years researching this topic and seeking the heart of what is so often misunderstood and labeled "evil." She writes from the perspective of the so-called child-molesters and brings them to life in their interactions with one another, their struggles to find their place in the world, and their fight to not only survive but to love. No excuses or apologies are made, simply an honest, objective exploration of the human character, and the resulting masterpiece is powerful enough to change my perspective of the world and heartwrenching enough to leave me in sporadic tears for the rest of the week. The varying viewpoints in the story are intelligent, articulate, well-informed, in-depth, and thought-provoking. The characters challenge one another and the reader as well, and the characterizations are so real and human that I cannot help but respect - even love - every one of them (the character Gold Star, especially).

"That's why I hope you'll keep posting here, so that we can learn from your story, just as I've learned from the stories of the boylovers I've met here," says one character on the Internet forums in response to the mother of a child abuse victim. I beg you all to give this story a try, despite the sensitive content, because here is a story about love, about friendship, about forgiveness and acceptance and understanding, and I guarantee it will send your world lurching, as it has mine.

Warning: The subject matter is delicate, to put it lightly. Topics include to varying degrees religion (primarily Christianity), human rights, homosexuality, pedophilia, incest, and suicide.

UPDATES:

"A Cliched Court Romance": Tethlen is the spoiled, temperamental, sharply brilliant prince everyone hates. He's twenty years old and has no sense of responsibility, but who can blame him when he'd had his claim to the Crown stripped from him at the age of six? He's lived all his life in the shadow of the boy who took his place, and knowing better than anyone how meaningless his existence is, he refuses to let go of life for the mere purpose of spiting fate. His sister alone knows the number of scars that crisscross all over his body, but her pacifying effect on him vanishes completely when they both fall in love with the same man, the newly-appointed Captain of the Guards. Bitter, angry, and jealous, Tethlen oscillates between desire for and fear of the reserved yet magnetic Captain Galen who in turn hates him with enough passion to make his existence worthwhile after all. Slash, fantasy/history, love triangles, ambition, teenage angst, you name the cliche and it's there. Not yet posted, a WIP.

"Letters of Tray and Seine" will be continued...someday.

CURRENT OBSESSION(S): Severus Snape, Mirage of Blaze (Seriously? Any story, anime or movie or book, that has my stomach twisting the entire way through gets five stars.)
LIFELONG OBSESSION: the pursuit of Christ

QUOTES:

"For we are His masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand in order that we would walk in them."
- Ephesians 2:10

"And there is salvation in no other, for neither is there another name under heaven given among men in which we must be saved."
- Acts 4:12

"Of course the game is rigged. Don't let that stop you - if you don't play, you can't win."
- Robert A. Heinlein (A for amazing, naturally)

"Life isn't a support-system for art. It's the other way around."
- Stephen King

HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS SITE:

POETS (though I won't profess to know the least about poetry):

Chochang913 - This young writer focuses on the dark sides of life with stunning descriptions and intricate, thought-provoking prose. I count myself lucky to have come across her pieces.

content with rhyme - This is a poet with the most beautiful and inspirational messages to share. All of her pieces have been crafted with thought and emotion, presenting an extraordinary read.

Deana Bell - Her songs are incredible, washed with emotion and deeply moving. Her faith in Christ is unshakable, only one of the many things I admire about her.

God's Warrior - A dedicated Christian who candidly shares her experiences in her writing and poetry. She is unafraid to write about and reflect upon her struggles in Christ and for Christ, and even her works that don't focus on herself reveal her own faith. Again, very inspirational.

Hadrian's Wall - Wow. Simply stunning. The lines coming out of this poet's pen explode with vivid imagery and potent emotion. Not only will you feel, you will burn.

Heart of the Sword - This poet's work is one of the best you'll find here. Her words are powerful and to the point. Read "Power of One" and you'll see what I mean. She, too, is a proud follower of Christ.

InSpiteOf - A talented poet with heaps of experience to share. Her witty words and catching lines incite laughter and praise.

Getuie - Another extraordinary poet. Her poems are unique and genuine, every last one of them. Her willingness to give up everything for Christ and her steadfast faith in Him is encouraging.

Wren Craven - This poet takes the simplest of concepts or daily concerns and twists it into gorgeous poetry. Her rhythm is impeccable, making all her poems a treat to read aloud - like chocolate melting across the tongue.

PROSE-WRITERS:

Deena - Very unique and unorthodox writing, cuttingly humorous and unashamed, holding nothing back. Whatever spills out onto the page is bound to entertain.

Hate to Hope - Though I've yet to read her longer, more popular fiction, the one-shots produced are chilling and lovely enough for me to want more.

Jeoal - A slash writer (male/male pairings), but don't let that stop you. Every piece of her work reflects the time and effort she's poured in, and there's a definite and inspirational improvement between her older and newer writings.There's a human grit to her stories that's simply irresistable. I love her writing style.

Karasu Tendo - Another wickedly talented slash/fantasy/supernatural writer. Clever and amusing and carefree, her writing springs with life. Addictive stuff.

Kimagure - Deceptively light-hearted but mature writing with barrels of laughter promised along the ride. Some very unique fantasy/slash ideas.

Lady Tempest - A slash fantasy writer who produces the most beautifully-written stories. Classic high fantasy. A definite recommendation.

Myrika - The best romance, action/adventure, and anything else writer I've come across here. In short, concise sentence structure and crumbs of delicious details, she captures the essence of her characters and drives her story forward. A master storyteller, as they say.

OutlawEris - A young, but brilliant writer. Her works are destined to become classics. Her writing is beautiful and the style is different from anything I've read before. The Kings of the Kilburne High, though unfinished, is particularly recommended.

Reapersun - "My Life in Pictures" is a remarkable slash story that skirts the ordinary and defies convention. And I mean that in the least cliched way. There's a lot to be learned when the main character is a reserved young man whose driven into the gay porn industry.

Redeemer - His two plays are of vastly different genres (romance/slash and action/horror/supernatural), but both are filled with moments of sparkling wit and and touching candor. And the action one, "Dark Tomorrow," is very thrilling action.

"Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee.

Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee."
