Within endless turns of yesteryears
Beneath a brilliant sky turned black
Midnight's complete and utter lack
Matchless glory, splendor from above
Found in this angel, this divine dove
Eyes of Heaven and wings of the wind
Yet heart shattered like ice within
Forgotten or forsaken
Waiting now to be awakened
Waking and sleeping
Continually weeping
What has happened to this gentle maid?
Whose life and joy now fade
Whence has her spirit fled
Why is her heart within so dead?
She has the battle fought and lost
Victory has evaded at terrible cost
The price she pays upon her own heart
Which, shattered, and now plays not its part
How now shall this angel feel?
This desolate spirit again be real
How can a heart shattered be whole again?
How can a fallen angel return from sin?
Who shall calm her lamenting cries?
Who will dry her streaming eyes?
Where are the arms to hold her near?
Where is the one to calm her fears?
No hands are reaching out
And in her heart there grows a doubt
The simple seed of faith betrayed
In friends and dreams of yesterday
The worlds has told her it's lies
She is betrayed and left to die
She believed and now pays the price
In her heart, shattered like ice
Where once was light now dark instead
Soon must the angel lay down her head
And cease the fight for the end is near
They will find her body lying here
But as her world crumbles around
She picks herself up off the ground
Shaking away the aches and tears
Bidding a glad farewell to fears
Her wings spread against the sky
This shattered angel again can fly
Though her heart is broken within
This shattered angel begins again
Now does savage might course her veins
When before through splintering pain
She only crumpled and fell
Gladly condemning herself to hell
What inner strength is now awakened?
Why now her weak practices forsaken?
What is this shining fiercely in her face
The fragile spirit gone what takes its place?
Shattered angel flying high and free
Never again to bow her knee
Before the world and it's demands
Now she follows only His commands
Strident voice rings out in the sky
The shattered angel is flying high
Ready are her hands to fight
Her enemies to put to flight
Listen now and heed my plea
Come, bring your pain to me
Let me hold you in my arms
Protect you from all harm
I will defend you from the night
For in my heart there wakes a might
A power like the screaming winds
Come to me, I will take you in
I have in my chest a shattered heart
But still I will fight the dark
As long as my wings bear me
I will take care of thee
In the grace of the one
Who loves me
Who died for me
Who lives for me
I have returned and will now stay forever
Come, abide with me
