First off, a quick note: I am working ~40 hours a week, plus a full course load of classes this quarter. This means that updates will be few and far between for the next month. It's only a month, mind you. Then, I will be graduated and can write all I like because my life will be working and writing, rather than working, stressing, studying, working on projects, all nighters and exhaustion. I can't wait until June. Until then, enjoy what I have written. I would love feedback on The Golden Mare! I am writing it a paragraph at a time right now, but it should have another chapter in ... well, a few weeks.
All right. I am a senior at Central Washington University and will graduate in June 2008. It's a rather exciting thing. I am majoring in Geography with an emphasis in Resource and Environmental Management. Also, I am getting a minor in Environmental Studies. Hopefully, this will get me a job with the Dept of Fish and Wildlife, DNR, BLM, or some agency along those lines. My dream is to work with the BLM on the Wild Horse and Burro project.
I have a job starting April 21 with Hydroacoustic Technology, Inc (HTI) and between that, working at CWU Catering Services, and school, writing will be the least of my worries. But, I will try and update as much as I can. Writing is always a nice escape from stress, especially if it is fiction writing, not paper writing.
I love horses. I could write and write and write all about horses and never grow tired of it. During my career as a student, I have written many research papers about wild horses and their management. If anyone is interested, shoot me an email and I'd love to chat! This quarter I am doing several research projects including them, so I am learning more and more all the time.
I have my own horse. He is an appendix Quarter Horse, meaning that he is bred to run. I have trained him for barrel racing and as soon as I am done with school, I plan to start doing that again. I used to do it all the time in high school, but it's been hard lately without the money for it, not to mention a horse trailer. He's been a great little pony. Lots of personality and he always makes me happy. Right now, he's living with my in-laws since it became too expensive to board him in town. So I get to see him maybe once a month now. But, July will be here soon (I graduate in June, but this job I just got goes through July).
Currently I am working on The Golden Mare and would love any and all feedback on that story. It's out of my usual genre (it's romance and I have usually written sci-fi/adventure/fantasy) but since I haven't been writing a whole lot in the past four years, I won't argue with myself if that's all I can write. I'm just glad to be writing again! It's also my first fiction story that is about a horse. Surprising, huh? My usual horse stories have been short short stories, or non fiction. So here goes with The Golden Mare. If you happen to read it, I hope you enjoy!
