Reading some of the bios on this website, I’m finding that I’m an old lady in comparison to most of you. Still, I’ve always considered myself something of a late-bloomer and rarely feel my age. So, as an introduction: I’m a forty-five-year-young female, single and an aspiring writer who currently works in an office. I love using websites such as this and FanFiction.Net as a way of practicing my writing. I’ve also been known to write letters to the editor of wrestling magazines.

I don’t smoke and I drink so rarely that I’m practically a teetotaler. I’m a born-again, spirit-filled Christian and my idea of church is sitting in my favorite park and being overwhelmed by the goodness of God. I believe in paying my taxes, telling the truth as diplomatically as possible and in the healing power of laughter.

I come from a dysfunctional family and I’m two generations away from being a Kentucky hillbilly. I cry at Hallmark commercials, Christmas specials and anything patriotic. My biggest passions are movies, baking, travel, and books, though not necessarily in that order. I also love magic shows, amusement parks and professional wrestling, although I don’t watch it anymore because I detest Vince McMahon and right now his programs are the only ones available in my area.

My favorite movie star is, was and always will be John Wayne, but I’ve also had some long-standing crushes on Robert Redford, Mel Gibson, Michael Keaton (in my opinion the sexiest man in Hollywood), Harrison Ford, Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, Sean Bean (in my opinion the sexiest man not in Hollywood), and my current fave, Liev Schreiber, among others. My favorite actress is and always has been Jane Fonda with Barbra Streisand a close, close second. My favorite movie is “Rio Bravo”; my favorite musical is “My Fair Lady”. Some of my other favorites are “12 Angry Men” (the original with Henry Fonda), “The Thing From Another World”, “Casablanca”, “A Few Good Men”, “Love Actually”, the LOTR trilogy and “Arsenic and Old Lace”. My favorite Disney movie is “The Little Mermaid”. My favorite Hitchcock movie is a tie between “Rear Window” and “Strangers on a Train”. My favorite movie to watch at Christmas is either “The Bishop’s Wife” or “We’re No Angels” (the original with Humphrey Bogart). My favorite movie to watch at Halloween is either “The Ghost Breakers” or “The Uninvited”. My video collection is pretty eclectic but I’m partial to action films, monster movies and court room dramas.

My car radio is set on golden oldies and light rock, but my CD collection ranges from Johnny Cash to Melissa Ethridge, from Barbra Streisand to U2. My favorite recording artist is Billy Joel and my favorite song is “Desperado” by the Eagles. I love Motown music, especially Aretha Franklin. My favorite book is “King Solomon’s Mines”. I’ll read almost anything, but my favorites are mysteries and true crime, autobiographies, and romances told with humor. I tend to be fascinated by stories about serial killers, which might be disturbing if I analyzed it too much. My favorite book in this genre is “Red Dragon” by Thomas Harris.

My favorite TV shows are “CSI”, “Angel” (boo-hoo, I’ll miss you), “The West Wing”, and “Inside the Actor’s Studio”. I love the questionnaire at the end. By the way, my favorite word is serendipity; my least favorite word is nasty; the sound or noise that I love is wind chimes; the sound or noise that I hate is someone demeaning a child, whether by screaming or quietly cutting (the adage that says “words can never hurt me” is the biggest lie I’ve ever heard. Words make the deepest wounds and the longest-lasting scars, and children in particular have no defense against them); what turns me on is laughter; what turns me off is lies; my favorite curse word is a tie between piss and crap (although I really love saying hogwash, but I don’t think that counts as a curse word); the profession other than my own that I would like to participate in (other than becoming a professional writer, that is) is a treasure hunter; the profession I would not like to participate in is a factory worker; and, if heaven exists (and it does), what I would like to hear God say when I reach the Pearly Gates is “Welcome Home.”

I’m a born tourist. If someone put a sign next to a hole in the ground that said, “See historic hole in the ground”, I’d stop and look at it. I love grand staircases, old cars and buildings, and reading historical markers on the side of the road. My favorite places are Las Vegas, the Black Hills in South Dakota, Eureka Springs in Arkansas, Disney World in Florida and mountains just about anywhere. My dream is too retrace Route 66 from Chicago to the Pacific Ocean.

My favorite types of food are Mexican and Chinese but my favorite food is chip’n’dip and ice cream. My favorite drink is very sweet ice tea and I don’t drink coffee, which apparently makes me somewhat bizarre. I love baking cheesecakes and creating new cookie recipes from whatever I happen to have on hand. I make a great chocolate cake.

I can recite all of the Best Picture Academy Award winners in order, but I can’t remember the names of most of my high school teachers. I love animals, especially cats, and while I enjoy kids for the most part, I have no desire to have any of my own. I don’t watch a lot of sports except for figure skating, but I never miss a Super Bowl and I never miss an Olympics. I collect recipes, jelly, glasses and mugs, inspiring quotes and unusual bottles.

My sister thinks I’m an idiot, my aunt thinks I’m a doormat and my mother doesn’t know what to think. One coworker called me odd; another called me Miss Patience. I had one boss tell me I had couth, whatever that is, and my last boss once said I was interesting, but since she was a psychotherapist I’m not sure if that was a good thing. I’ve been called inscrutable, diplomatic, weird, conscientious, thoughtful, diligent and funny. I’m pretty even-tempered about most things, but I am easily angered by racial prejudice, chauvinism, insults to my intelligence and anything hurtful towards a child, verbally, emotionally, physically. My philosophy of life can be found summed up by the character Virginia in chapter three of my story “Treasures of the Heart”. I value honesty, integrity, fairness, tolerance and loyalty. I’m a relatively mature adult that still tries to view the world with the wonder of a child. I think the world is a beautiful place and each day I try to make a point of thanking God that I’m alive.
