Well, I've been writing since 2003, after discovering fan fiction on various other sites. Of course, as is always the case when reading someone else's work, my own ideas began to ferment and before long, I felt a need to give them permanence. Thus began my journey with this mystery called on-line noveling.
Actually, way back in the 60's, I used to write a lot. I was passionate! So much so, that I would often get in trouble with my teachers for not paying attention to whatever subject they were teaching in that moment. Eventually, my writing gave way to boyfriends, marriage, birthing and raising kids, etc. Now that my two young'ns are adults - though yet to fledge, I have delved back into writing again.
Firstly, I am also a member of FanFiction.net under the same pen name. I write exclusively for Ninja Turtles. Yeah, yeah, go ahead and laugh, but - seriously - the TMNT's are all about family, respect, loyalty, and honor, not to mention pizza and a few good laughs. My kids actually introduced me to them way back when during their pre adolescent years. Who would have thought that a decade and a half later - at 50+ years of age - I would re-visit my own pre-teen years! LOL
In any event, my main reason for writing fan fiction was because it was safe. Someone already did the work in creating a world and characters with depth. My first exercise was to create my own OC's within this ready-made world, with my goal to eventually get to a point where I could create a story, a world, and all characters purely from my own imagination.
Last year I finally saw fruition of all that I've learned on FanFiction. I participated in the NaNoWriMo comp! Although I only managed to put in about 7300 words, they were ORIGINAL words! The characters were mine. The world was mine. The story was mine. It was all mine - bwahahahaha.
(cough)
Anyway, I hope with my first offering that I entertain you. I would appreciate feedback, preferably honest feedback with a balanced portion of critique and positive remarks, even if all you can say is that I spelled every word correctly! I do put my work through an auto beta via my MS Office Word Document, but now and then a correctly spelled word gets in there that just doesn't fit. Waist, waste. Get it? So, feel free to let me know about those, as well as other gaffs. After all, to improve once's 'game', one needs correction.
Thanks for listening.
