-The purpose of a writer is to keep civilization from destroying itself.

Writing has been a passion of mine for quite some time, as has reading others' fiction. As of yet, I have not posted any of my fiction, not for fear of criticism but none of it is yet up to my personal standards.

I have, though, posted a few of my poems, none of them are very long but I feel that they are up to par. Some are a bit depressing: I wrote them when I was having a bad week. I hope you enjoy them though and I hope that they provoke thought...

I decided that it might be a good idea to say something about my inspiration to write these since although the subject is obvious, the reasons I wrote them aren't always quite that simple.

Wishes of Freedom had two inspirations, one, my grandpa's death. I wrote it coming home from cleaning out his house for the last time. The other inspiration though was a friend's difficult times. She was starting to lose faith in God so the last few lines are dedicated to her.

You while this was written about a guy, after I finished I realized that it could be, and kind of is, a thank you to everyone who helped me through tough times especially my friends and parents.

Gray is a dabble I wrote on growing up and how you realize that things aren't just black and white, good or evil... Even though it is just a dabble, took me only three or four minutes to write, it's still one of my favorites because of the message.

Death's Claim's inspiration is quite forward. I was having a bad day and focused mainly on my depressing thoughts. This is probably my least favorite of the poems that I have posted here.

Shouldn't is pretty self-explanitory... How we should act in different roles.

-The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say.
