Well hey! My name's Sean, but you can just call me Yadyn if
you like. There are already tons of Sean's in the world, but so far
I've only found one Yadyn!
Anyway,
I'm sure you don't care, but even so I'm going to tell you regardless.
I'm now a recent college grad (computer science, yay!), anime nerd, with a wealth of minor skills that all
manage to fall short of being "really good." I'm good with anything
computer related, I'm knowledgable on music (besides just listening,
I'm talking digital and analog stuffs),
I think I have artistic talent that goes largely unutilized due to lack of any true dedicated practice (I spend too much time programming at my job to have time to doodle anymore! ;_;), I play video games a lot, and
I also do writing here and there (my minor was writing, yay!). Which is why this was created! For
more things me related, you can go to my ancient website I guess. But chances are you
don't really care sooo... moving on!
My
tastes in all things are quite varied. I like all kinds of art, all
kinds of music (except country, eugh), and all kinds of writing. My
favorite authors include Douglas Adams, Piers
Anthony, Margaret Weis & Terry Hickman (I know, I know, geeky), Bruce Coville (it's a childhood thing), and
even Bill O'Reilly (oh god am I going to get hate mail for that one,
heh). I also read a lot of manga.
Now for some notes on my works.
I wrote San Nin Gumi a
long long time ago. Forgive me if it seems simplistic, this was
tenth/eleventh grade or so. It wasn't meant to win any awards, just to be an enjoyable read. So take it as it is... Over the years, I revamped it several times. The version you see here should be the most recent update, my "special edition version 1" finished April 7th, 2004. I have no further plans to rewrite it even though I think I have come a long way as a writer.
Hatsukoi
was my next piece. It's long. I spent a long time writing and changing
and fixing and adding. A long long time. I wrote it with myself in
mind. I never figured anyone else would want to read this stuff so...
Anyway, you either like it or you don't. It's not at all original (in
fact, it is in major part based on a PC game's text script, almost verbatim in a lot of parts though the most recent version has somewhat attempted to deviate from that), so despite the enormous time spent on it I tend to ignore its presence in my writing history a lot. I made it for me, so yeah.
Jitsuwa
I did in a fit of frustration. It's basically me whining, but using the
mask of Shiro. Don't ask, don't worry, don't bother really. I dunno,
it's very emotional and thought-based... it won't be for everyone,
that's for sure. But if you like it, hey, that's cool. Looking back, it's rather embarrassing!
Hatsukoi ~Daini~, formally known as Youjo (the title of it's
manga form), is the sequel to Hatsukoi (obviously) that I was supposed
to draw in manga form but due to my enormous lack of skill I abandoned
after ten, albeit okay, pages (I do not have them scanned digitally, though, as they are not with me for the time being.) I finally broke down and began putting
it into a more novel form than manga form and here it is. Yes, it helps
to read Hatsukoi first, but you don't really have to. It's stand alone,
though you won't get the enjoyment of the "returning characters"
thing. I don't have a ton planned out for it yet though, so don't
expect more than two chapters for awhile. Fortunately this one does not
suffer at all from "borrowing" scripts and it is completely written by
me, although it's not at all very unique and uses a fairly cliché idea I suppose. As of 2007, I doubt very seriously if I will ever come back to finish this. Only if I got a lot of encouraging letters to do so, maybe. I tend to write more when people are interested and supportive. Otherwise, I play video games.
Blue Skies
was an original idea of creativity that has been my baby for quite some
time now. Work has been slow and difficult, but it is proving to be far
surpassing to anything I have ever done in the past (although that
might not be saying much in of itself). It has moved on to a larger and
grander aspiration -- a collection or series I want to do, all incorporating the same "world." Thus it has been
renamed tentatively to "Faery-Tale" and Blue Skies will be the first
"book" in the vengeance saga of Faery-Tale. I have a couple other ideas
for other sagas, and I've already begun notes and work on bits of Dark
Clouds, the second "book" in the vengeance saga. Confusing as hell, I'm
sure, and it's taking a long time to get anywhere yet... For now, just
take it as is. It will be constantly evolving, as my notes file is
almost as long as the story itself. I can easily see it changing very
drastically in the future, as I will want to shift away from the cliché
and over-done fantasy elements and into something more original, but the characters and what I have generally planned will all
remain mostly intact I am sure. I will try to keep recent versions of it online. Unlike a lot of my previous ventures into writing, this is one I still have a lot of desire to continue someday. For now, I am stuck wanting to be original but having trouble breaking free from the tired fantasy elements that get constantly used. I want to do something different, fresh, but... as anyone who has wrestled with creativity can tell you, it ain't easy bub.
Oscar's Example was written way back in high school sometime for my German class. We were supposed to produce something Odessa related, as it was the point of study at the time. I chose to fictionalize a sort of autobiographical story by someone who was involved with them near the end of the war. If you don't know anything about Odessa, I suggest starting with Wikipedia.
Crimson Defiance was written to fill a portfolio gap for one of my writing courses during college. It was thrown together hastily, is very short, and thus I don't like it at all really. It has some good parts though even if the idea isn't anything great, so I offer it here anyway. But jeez, even the title makes me gag.
Deep Sixed was a short story I worked on quite a bit during another college writing course. The style is probably the most true to my writing style now, and I thought the end result was pretty good. It remains one of the few stories I've written that I actually like. I had a lot of feedback during the course that helped me a lot too. Maybe more might come from here...?
The Fifth Gospel is an interesting piece, as its style is extremely experimental. I had a lot of fun writing it, though, and I think it shows because (at least to me) it's a hoot to go through. I admit, the wordiness and language can get a bit confusing at times. Less experienced readers may need to re-read sentences a few times to get it, but I'm fairly sure it's been given plenty of read-throughs by many people to catch a lot of the glaring problems.
Time Didn't Fly came about mostly from a real experience, but spiced up a bit for story form. It, like the above two, is another of my stories that I rather like. It is the kind of anecdotal type story that makes for a good story to tell people. Entertaining, yet this short-story form of it carries with it the additional bit of a message towards the end that I think is pretty true to life and to myself. Despite the humor of the piece, the message is a rather ugly-side-of-humanity kind of thing. Oh, and the language again might be a bit wordy at times. This is getting heavily into my college career, so the level of vocabulary and sentence structure is notably advanced compared to my older stuff. Oh, and I still don't like the title. Can anyone think of anything good? No one in class could.
The untitled piece is an interesting one, I'll give it. I wrote it all in one sitting, my first attempt at anything sci-fi-ish. I came back to read it two years later and it felt like reading someone else's work, as I had pretty well forgotten those few hours I spent hammering this out of raw creative inspiration. I only wish I could remember where it was going, or at the very least reacquire that inspiration that drove me on this one before so that I may continue it. As it stands, it is a title-less piece that ends abruptly. Oh well... maybe someday...
Reviews
are greatly encouraged --- especially constructive critiques. I am open
to any and all suggestions, though keep in mind that A) with the
exception of all things Faery-Tale related and newer stuff, all of my older pieces are quite... well...
old now, and B) because they are so old I have no plans to change them,
so it doesn't do too much good to tell me to
do it differently now. But your critiques will go towards helping me in my current
efforts, although a lot of the time, being years later as it is, I probably know already all of the faults. I do ask that if you read them, review them! Even just a
little note saying "it was nice" is fine, it helps me also see how much
notice they're getting (which I realize is relatively zero). Lastly, my
summaries usually wholly fail to describe them properly, and I can't
seem to do much better in that regard. Oh well, this seems to be a
Fictionpress trend amongst users though.
Bottom
line though: have fun! I hope you find some kind of enjoyment out of my attempts at authoring. You do me infinite honor by reading
them, I mean that. And if you like any of them, don't hesitate in telling all your friends (ha ha, yeah right)!
