I think I just pulled a Buffy. ;) While I don't have much time to work on Memoirs, I have had some time to work on my poetry again. I know it's been awhile, but I think I've finally realized that I'm not going to get better if I don't try. -_- Currently I've been working on some closed form poetry, things like villanelles and sestinas. I did try to write a sonnet, but that sort of turned on me and became a freeverse poem. So, at the very least I'll continue to work on poetry. I got two jobs again, one in retail, one is sort of a contract cleaning service deal so I do those while going to college full-time, so I can use that as an excuse for slow updating. XD New book recommendation: The Teachers & Writer's Handbook of Poetic Forms. It shows you how to write in all different kinds of forms. If you want to experiment with poetry this one is very good. Both Arawna and Book of Obsessions are on hold. I'm very sorry, but I am just not interested in them right now. I am working on a different story that I feel is much better than either of them, but I have yet to write the beginning in a way that satisfies my new critical muse. I am also taking down work that I feel is not good. Chances are I will try to tweak them and make them better. Feedback helps this process also. ;) The good thing about taking down old work, is so that I can feel a little better about posting new stuff. Hurrah! So, in the midst of my up and down emotions regarding school, I do have two classes (with the same professor though) that are actually good. (I tried BSing a paper and only got a C, any other professor would've let me get away with an A-. I'm so excited. XD) Anyways here are two books that should be recommended to any writer: Style: Lessons in Clarity and Grace by Joseph M. Williams They Say I Say: The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing by Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein They're both brilliant and helpful. Both are full of good examples and exercises. | |||||||||
