I know that brevity is supposedly the soul of wit and all manner of other wonderfulness, but I sometimes get frustrated by the shortness of other people's profiles, particularly when I'm procrastinating by reading them stalkerishly.

Thusly,

The Short

Name: Liz

Age: 19

What do I write? Fantasy, a blend comedy-of-manners and swords and sorcery. I would also like a write historical fiction one day.

The Long

I'm a bit in love with random and grammatically dubious French, as you can probably tell. Inconnue means "unknown." I'm seventeen, and I am equally happy to be called Liz or Inconnue.

I've always written and read, but now that I'm at an age when it's difficult to find books that appeal to me. I think that I want a YA type of plot, but written into an adult book. I have books on both sides of the gap that appeal to me. On the YA side, I like Robin McKinley's books, especially Spindle's End and Rose Daughter; Shannon Hale's The Goose Girl; Libba Bray's A Great and Terrible Beauty; A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly; and The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner. Of adult books I've read, I like The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant, Wicked and Mirror Mirror by Gregory Maguire, and Through a Glass Darkly by Karleen Koen. (The last one is mostly because it is set in the Baroque era, with which I am developing a slight obsession.) My favorite "classics" are Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre. When I was younger, I had a strange and rather shameful addiction to Animorphs, and I read Ella Enchanted six times in one summer.

I love singing, and that somehow crops up in a lot of my writing. I'm not a natural performer; I kind of get tunnel-vision when I'm in front of people ;) I love rehearsals, especially small, intimate rehearsals with only one or two people who are really good singers, and just fooling around in general with my friends and a book of sheet music or a CD. I'm a soprano, and I'm working on a degree in vocal performance.

I hope you enjoy my writing!
