Strix aluco: the tawny owl
About Me:
I love writing fantasy (and, apparently, horror) but I don't claim to be brilliant at it. Hopefully people will like what I write enough to review it...or at least have suggestions for improvement! You'll find mostly short stories here. I have little talent at poetry (or short stories, for that matter, but I like them enough to try anyway) and I have problems with commitment...thus you won't find many poems or chaptered (and complete) stories on my profile. I occasionally get distracted by sparkly objects or my desire to make movies and/or not fail in college classes but don't despair: I always come back to write something. Or maybe that is a reason to despair. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, after all.
Let's see...more about me. I'm a junior in college, majoring in geography. Before you ask, no, I don't have any idea what I'm going to do with my degree but I know that 1. there are jobs and 2. it's what I can see myself doing. I love willow trees, red leaves and sunsets but particularly both at the same time, my cat, hearing new stories, people watching, rice pudding, salukis and papillons, blankets and throw pillows, dancing in the rain, sitting by a fire, petting llamas, spinach salads, planning for the future, daydreaming, staying busy, sci-fi shows, owls, long dresses that sparkle and billow around you when you spin, when my younger sister copies me, reading, optical illusions, and remembering one very great bike ride I had with my father. I don't understand chat speak, olive oil, or why so many underage college students drink. Can you explain any of this?
The Obligatory 'Favorite' Quote:
Oma Desala: The universe is vast and we are so small. There is only one thing we can truly control.
Daniel Jackson: What's that?
Oma Desala: Whether we are good or evil.

Sunday, September 14, 2008: Where'd summer go?! Totally unproductive summer...and I can't promise anything new until winter break in December. Alas, a full course load and work keep me from guaranteeing anything but I shall try if I ever have time and/or inspiration.
Anyway, these are the larger projects I'm currently plotting, drafting, or editing:
When All Else Fails: (Action/Sci-Fi/Drama) Have you ever had a work shift that seemed to last forever? What if it didn't end? I put this one off so long that I decided to put it off for a little while longer...until November 2008, that is. This will be NaNoWriMo '08.
The Winding Way: (Fantasy) A wanderering musician stumbles upon a time-traveling demigod and his wife, setting in motion events which lead to their involvement in a centuries-old religious conflict. This one has gone through so many names now, it's hard to keep track. A merger between the Amara universe and my 2007 NaNoWriMo novel, the final product is being heavily edited before I decide if it'll ever be seen by anyone else. Right now it's looking doubtful, but who knows?
The (Night)light: (Supernatural) When a man's mother and sisters are killed in an accident, he struggles to come to terms with their deaths. Then his daughter is born and he starts on a very strange path to healing. This short novella is my current focus since it's intended as a gift. AND I wanna prove that I can, in fact, complete something with chapters.
