NEWS OF A LARGE AND IMPORTANT NATURE: I apologise to anyone (since I'm not really sure how many of you there are, if any) who is pining for an update. I hereby acknowledge that I am the master of the shitty update. I get distracted. I get bored. This time, I got a car and three jobs to pay it off. I'm working/at uni every day, so there isn't really a lot of time to bang out anything of worth. I am still researching when I get a spare moment for Why I Hate Stephanie Meyer and I fully intend to post. Soon. Also, my works will only be posted on this site, so if you see something too similar to something of mine on another site (say, the same story, with a different title or character names) please let me know, so I can find the offender and have it removed. I don't expect to have any of my works stolen, since horror is no way near as popular as romance, but it pays to be prepared for the worst. REDLANDS VERSION 3.0 UP!

Name: Slightly Obsessive

Location: Somewhere in the Australian Underground.

Other:

Can't seem to stop sleeping in or procrastinating.

Has made afforementioned procrastination into an art.

Hero: Optimus Prime. For he is righteous.

Friends: Most important people in my life.

Australian, but descended of English, German and Irish. Italian by (my Aunt's) marriage.

Possibly the most distracted driver who ever decided to drive on the left-hand side.

Of all the things I've wanted to be being a writer has been the only constant.

Hopes to one day be fluent in Japanese and Arabic, and have a fair understanding of French, Italian and Latin.

Will be an author, no matter what Annie Proulx thinks, says or writes.

Hates poor historians who pretend to know ancient people and write history like it's fiction. See also, Barbara Mertz.

Also known as 'The Enforcer' on the soccer field, for none can match my underhanded sliding-elbow-seagull-death-scream tactic.

I build worlds in my mind and then watch them shatter.

Strangely happy, but most of my writing tends to be angsty, angry or hopeless.

Thinks everyone should read Paradise Lost and the short stories of Edgar Allen Poe.

Is obsessed with Norton Antivirus.

Is paranoid about public transport, especially CityRail (CityFail!). By the by, new timetable is shithouse.

Thinks titles should have capitals and refuses to read a story when the title is grammatically incorrect.

I write short stories because I lack the attention span for anything longer.

Does not believe in gratuitious gore. Horror is an emotion, not a reason for excessive internal organ removal.

Friendly, shy, loud, quiet, mean and nice.

Slightly obsessive.

Some texts are born literary, some achieve literariness, and some have literariness thrust upon them.

Story Status:

Releasing Sin (AKA My Baby)

Summary: “Victory,” spat the dark king, “And they will worship me!” To seduce mankind to the path of evil, Satan sent his only daughter, Sin, to Earth. Under revision.

(6/6 posted.) The newest version of Releasing Sin is up! Take note of a huge number of differences from the past versions - characters have been renamed, dialogue has changed, the meaning and purpose of the story itself has evolved. I keep finding better ways to word things every week so its changed even more since I reposted. Most recently (3.0) I've added a little to all the chapters and fixed up some of the problems I had with some words not being in the centre. Sequel? Maybe. After all my other story ideas. Actually considered an idea for a first chapter the other day.

Night-Beast (My Second Child)

Summary: Alex is awakened by the sound of a dog barking from somewhere inside his house. However, he doesn't own a dog and the cry keeps moving further and further away, leading him outside into the night.

(1/1 posted.) Another foray into horror; this time with a male perspective. Waiting for critiques before further editing. I also wrote a sequal to this, also featuring the Beast, but during exam conditions so the quality isn't the same. Interesting, the main character is also male but old. I may re-write and post, after the HSC.

Wheel of Fire (The Oft Ignored Middle-Child)

Summary: Alex Earl, former SAS commando, knew something was wrong when his small, private security firm was asked to guard a superyacht while it sailed past the west coast of Africa. A boat tailing them at the edge of the radar was a sure sign of trouble.

(2/7 posted.) In the style of Clive Cussler/Matthew Reilly. I have decided for a male lead, female supporting. Set in the present/future day, will include current events like global warming, the financial crisis and pirates.

The Redlands (The Doted-Upon Youngest)

Summary: Down in the Redlands, where the grass is tall and burnt orange in colour, a man faces his demons. A sinister being watches and waits. It is said that the field was sown in demon blood and the vegetation hungers for more; moving closer towards the town Raglan, whispering and hissing even when there is no wind.

(6/6 posted.) My not-sequel to Releasing Sin. This time I've decided to use Doctor Faustus as an inspirational tool. Should be about the same length as RS. Set in the same universe. Spotted some small errors and have since fixed them - VERSION 3.0 UP!

Works In Progress (Unposted):

I have started research for a critical/snarky essay - Why I Hate Stephanie Meyer - and more serious attempts to actually start writing it will be attempted...soon. I have recieved a great anthology of horror literature which will be greatly used as research. I just got my Major Work journal back, with all my notes on Edgar Allen Poe and Dante's Inferno in it! Hooray! Chapter 1 has been written, but I'm going to write a few more and edit a lot before I post. More recently, I've stolen some Anne Rice books from my cousin and have some great uni readings on Literature to refer too. However, I've decided to do an overarching critique of the whole Twilight Saga, based on the opinion of a friend who suggested that the first Twilight was relatively good compared to the last. So, I'll need some more time to properly read and analyse all of them. I will be using illegal E-books, since I refuse to add to that woman's profits.

Ed Spectre - A character inspired by Rorschach and The Comedian from Watchmen. He's a hunter, employed by the Triumvirate, whose sole purpose in life is to destroy anything Unnatural and he enjoys his job far too much. I'm in the process of writing a one-shot as an introduction to the character, but I'll end up full length short story with a longer plot arch and a few minor characters. Hamlet is the inspirational tool for this one. I like Shakespeare's style and Hamlet's about, among other things, revenge and moral corruption. And there is a ghost/s.

The Unbelievers - (title may change) A three part mystery/horror story, taking place in the near future, set in Australia like RS:P. Not much other than that decided.

The Strange - (title may change) Whenever Morgan Jones touches someone who's going to die in less than a week, she vomits and washes her hands compulsively. Originally diagnosed with acute OCD, Morgan searches for the real reason behind her illness because it's driving her insane. (In the same universe as Unbelievers).

Internet Security Girl - A very small plotbunny - various scenes from the life of an internet security programmer, who likes to consider herself a virtual superhero, with various themes which I have yet to decide.

The Shadow People - (Unbeliever universe) "I see the future, and it's dark," I told the psychiatrist. He thought I was just pessimistic, but I could see the future. Like shadows on a wall, or ripples in a pond. I thought they could help me, but they had other plans. - Eeek! Something in first person! I hate to write from this perspective, but I love to challenge myself.

Jeff Snake - Four girls without an iota of sanity between them.

07/07/08 - My Greatest Companion, May you find your rest beneath the trees.
