Author has written 9 stories for Life, Fantasy, and Friendship. My name is Jack and I live in Buffalo, NY in the U.S. I am an English Lit. major at the University at Buffalo. I am a creative sort who enjoys dabbling in writing and painting and I appreciate most forms of art. I consider myself a spiritual person as well. I enjoy reading, writing, painting, watching movies, video games, playing hockey and soccer and spending time with friends. Since this is a place for literature here is some of my recommendations: Douglas Adams: Hitchhikers and Dirk Gently. Great Brit humour, fun and wacky. Neil Gaiman: American Gods, Neverwhere: Gaiman is simply a captivating storyteller. Tom Holt: Odds and Gods: An interesting take on what happens to gods when they retire and such. More great Brit humour, also wacky. J.R.R. Tolkien: The Hobbit, LotR trilogy, The Silmarillion. The Silmarillion is only if you are really interested in Middle Earth and want to know more about it. It is very much historical in nature and not really a captivating epic/adventure story. But you do get to learn the origin of Sauron and his boss Morgoth or Melkor as he was originally known. Michael Moorcock: The Elric Saga: Probably the 2nd most influential fantasy series after Tolkien, very dark. I heard they are working out ideas for a movie, it'll be hard to do because it operates on a larger scope (think the fate of the universe and grand master plans for it) and is extremely dark. "Blood and souls for my lord Arioch!!" Wallace Stevens: Domination of Black, etc. Just familiarized myself with him this past spring. Samuel Taylor Coleridge: Kubla Khan etc... Edgar Allen Poe: well just about any or all of his works... H.P. Lovecraft and his ilk: Short pulp fiction horror from the 1920s. Inspired bad movies unfortunately. Stephen Crane: The Black Riders, some great poetry. | |||||||||
