Breathtaken

‘Sin is the only real-colour element left in modern life.’ Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray (or whatever that book is called)

This is my child. I am not evening beginning to kid. It is my first work that has ever had anything more than ten fans, and it actually has 60-some readers. It makes me excessively joyous. If you want to see my best work, this is the story to look at.

Premise: Alister Rowan, 18-years-old, is a vampire Hunter. Or at least, he thinks he is. That’s the way he was raised, definitely. He grew up learning to kill the bloodsuckers. He planned to spend his entire life doing it. Then he made the mistake of going along with this plan for his siblings. Alister had to infiltrate the vampire Armand’s home. Then a problem arose: Armand decided that Hunter or not, Alister was going to belong to him.

Rating: M, for some language and sexual content

Length: Currently 100ish pages and roughly 60,000 words (that’s rounded up)

Status: Incomplete, 8/28 chapters. It is of course at the top of my writing list.

The Soundtrack

This is the list for the soundtrack I made, and each song has a link to a video for the song, even if it isn’t a real video (might just be the song on YouTube or something), to make it easy for you. The songs are in no particular order – we call it rifling through my CD collection, which if you care, is made up of over 100 discs – and they just stand for various things. If the explanation is an ellipses (…) that means the reason is plot-related and I am not allowed to explain it.

1. Modern Rose – Kanako Itou – I’m not positive why I included this one. There’s just something about the English translation… It is, however, a really pretty song. This woman has a beautiful voice (she did the incredibly creepy Kanashimi no Mukou he/The Other Side of Sorrow for the final episode of School Days, which is a perfect portayal of teen life, and note the sarcasm, okay?).

2. In the Shadows – The Rasmus – Okay, seriously, this is Alister’s theme song. There isn’t a single part of the song that doesn’t fit him. I even managed to use this topic as an essay in my Journalism class. The group is from Finnland and the singer is incredibly smexy.

3. Our Farewell – Within Tempation - …The meaning is in chapter twenty-something, which will in fact be titled ‘Our Farewell’. I do suggest listening to WT, of course, for no real reason. They’re amazing. The vocalist, Sharon den Adel, has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.

4. Bittersweet – Within Temptation - …It represents the same area of the novel as Our Farewell, actually.

5. When the Lights Are Down – Kamelot - …This song, by the most amazing band ever whom you should most definitely listen to, goes through the novel plot as a whole. They have a male vocalist, Roy Khan, who was trained in opera and he has the most amazing voice ever.

6. Edge of Paradise – Kamelot – This song is basically defining how Armand is Alister’s drug, makes him high, and all that jazz. Really, on the album (it’s off of Epica) this song’s part in the story was where the lead character was in opium dens getting drugged as hell.

7. Poison – Alice Cooper – My only justification is that this is an incredibly sexual song, and it would be from Alister’s point of view.

8. Fire – Paulina Rubio – This one is another sexual justification.

9. Had Enough – Breaking Benjamin – It’s plot-related, and all I can say is that it has to do with Kendrick. I hate Kendrick. But I love this song, especially for the way the singer says ‘you greedy little bastard’. And it’s the only BB song I like.

10. Come – Namie Amuro – This is one of them that I can’t really explain how it works, but somehow it does. It makes me think of Armand and Alister safe and warm and, most importantly, together.

11. See Who I Am – Within Tempation – This song, in my opinion, is the perfect definition of Armand and Alister’s relationship.

12. Garden of Everything – Steve Conte and Maaya Sakamoto – Another hard to explain song. Somehow, however, I’ve found that if I think hard enough, this song fits everything.

13. Aquarius – Within Temptation – Okay, these are part of the lyrics: I relinquish, to your powers/From your grasp I just can’t hide/I missed the danger, I had to conquer/You made me feel alive. And then from another part of the song: I long for you, Aquarius/I need to be with you again/I fear you, Aquarius/My destiny till the end. …Need I say more?

14. Bat Country- Avenged Sevenfold – I was listening to this song one day and started laughing uncontrollably because it made me think of the pair of them. Don’t you agree. Alister has had too many doses of Armand and he’s starting to get an attraction…Hilarious, at least to me.

15. Reason – Hoobastank – It’s a sweetness thing. Armand is naturally an ass, but with Alister, he’s so nice and loving. Now you may insert a cheesy romance statement of your choice.

16. Shake It – Metro Station – Okay, has anyone heard this song? It takes all of two lines to become like, the Epic Sexual Song (that should be the title, I swear). That in itself makes the damn thing fit.

17. Et Al – Hurt – This one isn't really on the soundtrack for the sake of the story, but because some of the words seriously make me think sexual things and I plan to listen to it while writing the sex scenes.

Then of course, the most exciting news ever to me, is this: A girl on Livejournal is making a manga adaptation. Isn’t that just amazing? Also, you should be absolutely amazing and go and hang out on the forums, all right? I will love you forever, considering only a few people hang around at the moment.

A Moment's Temptation

This is a co-write between my wife and I. If you haven't realised it yet, my wife is Kanilla.

"Relax, child. It does not please me to see you so..." He searched for the fitting word, "terrified." He coaxed the boy into taking another strawberry, but his eyes had an absent look, as if Iova was trying to ignore him, and that was something he would not allow. His hand took the boy's chin and forced his head to the side so their eyes could meet. "This too belongs to me," he tapped a finger against Iova's temple, "when I wish to have it. You will not shut me out." He felt the boy shudder like a little kitten.

Premise: At the age of twelve, Iova Pike made a deal with a demon to suppress the magick he was unable to control. In return, the demon would collect his life, and his magick, when the boy turned 17. When that day arrived, however, Iova was not ready to die. Thus he made a new contract- now he is allowed to live, with his sealed magick, but now he is the demon's lover.

Rating: M, if that weren't obvious

Length: Not very, so far.

Status: Three chapters in.

Sanctuary

This was something that resulted from boredom, more or less. Random inspiration. It's been known to happen. Excerpt? Sure. One without much of Ashley's swearing. He likes to do that, you know.

“Too friendly?” He grinned at me. “You haven't seen anything yet. I haven't even invited you anywhere for just us yet. Maybe I won't, if I find out in the course of tonight you're really an ass. Or if I find out you're straight, which'd also pose a bit of a problem.”

My entire frame flinched at that. “And what makes you think I'm gay?” I tensed warily.

“Dunno.” Cain chuckled, glancing down at me. Now we were crossing my front lawn. He pointed to the right. “We're going that way. So as I said, I don't really know. My little sister is obsessed with your book on about nine disturbing levels, so I've seen just about every interview you've done since it came out and I just always had feeling. Made me want to meet you myself about as badly as she's wanted to. What do you know, huh?”

Premise: Ashley Sears needs a break from the stress of his regular life. No, not just college and the basic things you put up with every day. Try handling the popularity of writing a bestselling novel, and the pressure from your editor to write a new one. Sounds fun, sure. Until you live it. To escape, he drove off to wherever he ended up and instead made some knew friends, gained a whole new perspective on life, and wasn't sure how it happened. Maybe he was high.

Rating: M. For one, Ashley has a mouth on him, though most of his swearing is mental, and...if you've read Breathtaken, you know me. Something will happen. You know it.

Length: Now? One chapter. Isn't that exciting? ...No. Interesting, sure. There's a serious difference here. Plus, it's not really like the work you know from me.

Status: Again, one chapter. I'll get to it sometime, I'm sure. Trust me.
