Greetings all! Howd'y do? Mein Name ist Herge. That is rather important.
Perhaps more now should be said about myself. I love language;I am taking French, but on my own time, I have studied Latin, German, and am now learning Old French. I am in the process of re-writing/editing two novels: The Wars of Balkin and The Destruction of the Spam, which is the groundwork for everyhting else I've ever thought about wrting, except for my poetry; actually, several ideas started seperately but became intertwined. I am also writing another novel, Wheat among Weeds, the story of a Catholic priest in a small French town, and a play, "Out of the Depths", which is about a royal war of succession between best friends.
I also love music, but as far as writing goes, my prose is oftentimes an allegory of my life, or not, but is always based in a semi-fictional world. My poetry, however, is more or less 100 straightforward and captures rather well my mind in a moment.
AD XI KAL NOV in AD MMVII Well, much has changed in the last about year or more. I am now a first year sophomore studying civil engineering at The Ohio State University. The relationship that changed everything about me is now passed. I have taken a year of Spanish instead of French 4. I have become extraverted, and I am praying over becoming a priest of Jesus Christ in the Roman Rite. I'm still writing the same books, though I haven't made much headway, and I am have a poem planned which I hope to finish before things change. It may be in the format of Wand'ring Through a Wood so Sweet and Walking Down a Path so Bright. It is likely to be by far my most gory of my poems, and yet it will not be among the dark ones: true darkness is sterile; blood, life, and feeling are not truly dark.
AD X KAL IVN in AD MMVIII I am finishing up my year at Ohio State. I am now a math major, and I will be teaching myself logic and proofs over the summer (Math 345) to catch up with the honors track. I am pretty sure that I do not want to be a secular priest. There is a monastery in France I really like, and some other possibilities that are too up in the air to discuss intelligently. I finally have an integrated theory linking Modernism, Post-Modernism, and the new artistic movement developing at this very moment; I simply need to write a paper on it: summer perhaps. Oh, yeah, I just built a sweet robot. And I'm not on facebook or myspace anymore, and my blog is dismantled so that I can live more simply.
Now some brief basics:
Authors: Feodor Dostoevsky, William Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, JRR Tolkien, John Donne, William Shakespeare, Dante Alighieri
Music: Arcade Fire, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Victoria, William Byrd, John Rutter, Led Zeppelin, pretty much everything
Stuff I do: study, serve at Mass, sing in the schola, sing in the choir, Circle K, treasurer of Catholic Student Society, pray the Divine Office, look up stuff on liturgy and the arts
I have been told that I write very much in the mold of the Southern Gothic of Flannery O'Connor. It fits, but it is inadequate. Were she a romantic, yes, okay; I am a romantic gothic or something...i.e., I'm Catholic!
In amore Christi,
Thomas Rex
Enjoy!
