Update: 10/29/09 3:30 AM Well, two days before Halloween, and I've already got a little treat for my reader(s?). Dat-da-da-dah! The first two chapters of The Rise of Estancia. Chapter three is nearly finished and I hope to have it up before this afternoon, but I can't make any promises. Meanwhile, The Fall of Estancia is in a state of constant revision. Additions, subtractions, all-out changes, and even an attempt at shifting the story to a third-person omniscient narrative (So. Much. Work!), though none of these changes have seen daylight yet. Mostly I just want the story to be, well... longer, without adding more story than is already there, so I'm looking at giving Sergei a bit more narrative space with things like emotions and such. That said, I hate it when Sergei thinks. He just comes off sounding emo and whiny and... really, really, dumb! Not that the rise is a whole lot better. It seems like it's playing out like a bad episode of some prime-time drama or something. I love not having to set up any of the characters beyond brief histories, (orphanages are the best cop-out ever) but at the same time, creating characters is my favorite part of writing and I find myself already wanting to add new ones to try and help things along. Which is exactly how the first book died its horrible, horrible death, so I will persist and refrain from adding non-essentials. No matter how much it hurts. | |||||||||||
