Why hello there. My name's Nathan. I'm 17 years old(if you couldn't tell by those two numbers right above this) and yes, I am a male. But I'm sure you've gathered that. I'm formerly from southern Maryland, but recently I moved to Corinth, Mississippi. I have two pets, a dog named Chaos and a cat named Nub(he has no tail), and I have many sisters. The youngest is Carley, who is 2 and a half, then Hailey, who is 14, the oldest sister and oldest child is Angel, who is now 20 years old. And I have a few stepsisters and even a half sister, too. I spend much of my time lurking in the basement of my house which I have luxuriously to myself, but when I'm not in here I'm probably busy being a Junior in High School. Pffft. I have a girlfriend, Jessica, whom I met last May, and have been in love with ever since. She's 14 and lives about 2 hours away in Alabama, and she is also a writer. Her pen name on FictionPress is PerfectionIsInTheEyes.
Anyways, aside from personal stuff, I decided to start writing only a good few years ago, maybe at 13 at the latest. I had always been one for writing very long, drawn out essays in classes, or making writing assignments longer than I was supposed to. Some time during 7th or 8th grade, my friend Jeff and I were concocting a story idea based on a little comic I used to draw in my free time. The comic was based around a character named Mike, who had a very hard time controlling his temper. Mind you, I'm not the greatest artist in the world. That, with the help of Jeff(who is exponentially a better artist), somehow evolved into a more serious type of character. I remade Mike and added more characters in, and realized that I could really do something with the idea. I named the story Rage, and to tell the truth it was originally planned to be a comic. But about 3 or 4 years of waiting and I got no product from Jeff(the artist of the comic), so only recently I decided to turn it into a piece of literature. A lot of thought and work is being put into this story, and I only started writing it a few days ago (March 11th), so it will be a while before anything from that story comes onto the site. But there is an ancient piece of writing I did for it just for fun on here, a subplot that ended up being nothing. You can read that to get a feel for how the characters were when I wasn't in complete control of them. It's all my writing now, though, so there'll definitely be changes. Look out for that in the near future.
I've written a lot since the base idea of Rage was conceived, one of my favorite works being "Holy Wars" that I have here. I occasionally work on it, but in all honesty it was originally just something to tide me over during the summer(I did not plan on having a girlfriend for the summer at the time.) I showed it to a few people and they thought it was a good piece of work, especially my friend Kayla, who seems to fangirl over my writing for some reason. So I kept on writing it, and I'm workingslowly on the seventh chapter right now.
Another favorite piece of mine is "The Faint Taste of Hope." I've done a few collaborations on writing, but none of it was ever serious writing. On this project, I collaborate with my friend Kerry, who lives in Massachusetts. She is an amazing writer, and I'm honored that she agreed to work on a story with me. It's a fun experience, tossing ideas back and forth to each other, and when the time comes, even tossing the story back and forth to each other. The chapters are longer than any of my other work, and Kerry is very ill right now, so the story is extremely slowly coming along. Keep an eye out for that as well.
I must admit, though, the most fun I've ever had writing was doing a comedy titled "The Online Chronicles." A few years ago, this story began as a simple rant on my Gaia Journal, and dozens of people thought that the idea was hilarious. It involves the character Nathanman as he adventures through the internet with his team of warriors. The premise is, I basically find a bunch of things about the internet that I either find funny, annoying, or vomit-inducing and I wrap a bit of plot around it using models of real life people made into some type of MMORPG form. If you ask, I'll give you connections of the characters to real life friends of mine.
Writing Style:
Mainly narratives, third person, action/adventure writing is my forte. I dabble in romance, not too much, because I'm terrible at writing it. What am I saying, I'm about as good at that as anything else I write.
Inspiration:
While I'm not a huge fan of him, Stephen King is a pretty damn good horror writer. He's good with suspense, which I like to think I've derived my use of suspense from.
Then there's F. Paul Wilson, the man behind the Repairman Jack series. I find his use of horror, espionage and mystery mixed with action have inspired me to write closely to his style.
One major thing that inspired me to write at all was The Seventh Tower series by Garth Nix. Even though I read it at a young age, it was the first book I had read that was capable of literally taking me to a new world, making me believe these people could exist and that their customs existed. It was a surreal experience for me, truly.
Thank you for stumbling upon my page. You truly are awesome for that fact. Now that you've sat through the uninteresting information about me, why don't you check out some of my mediocre writing?
